Your Personal Home Decorator in Book Format
I admit to being one of those people who had (past tense) bins of decor stored away in the room above my kitchen. A big one for fall, multiple ones for Christmas, then another big one for Easter/Spring, and another for Summer, as well as a fake wreath for each season. I started out at the Christmas Tree Store when we were first married (who could resist cute decor for less than $1.00 each), and graduated to Home Goods and Target. But hauling that out every season and then packing it away took the joy out of enjoying my house each season. It had become exhausting.Myquillin's new book, Welcome Home: A Cozy Minimalist's Guide to Decorating and Hosting All Year Round teaches you how to use what you already have, as well as natural items to get your home ready for each season. Then, you welcome the holiday into that season. No bins full of stuff to haul out and put away. Fall is here and I've pulled out a few cozy blankets that I store in my ottoman, switched out the pillow covers, and brought in some nature and already my house has shifted out of summer mode. I can't wait until we can start hosting friends and family again to put some of the hospitality practices into play, and I'm especially excited about creating seasonal signature beverages.

Wonderful
I enjoyed this so much. I relate deeply to much of what the author says. Her analogy of taking showers and hospitality (dreading/hating them because they are so much work, but never regretting one afterwards) made me laugh because I feel the exact same way about both. I also adore the rhythm of seasons and love reflecting it inside our home, but don’t want to be burdened by lots of cluttery decorations. Her tips and tricks for “cosy minimalism” feel very freeing to me while still allowing for abundance.I appreciated that she says in hospitality we need to consider three people: ourselves (am I in the right mindset to welcome guests, or have I stressed myself out with excessive preparations or selfish worry about what they’ll think of me?), our families (am I making the people I live with feel miserable or loved as we prepare to host?) and our guests (how can I make them feel welcome, valued, and loved just as they are?)It’s also just a really pretty book both visually and in its content. The tone is peaceful, relaxed, and burden-lifting, while rejoicing in the joys of seasons and hospitality. Just delightful.

Just what I needed!
Love this book so much! I’ve always loved to decorate, but in the past have always overdone it and it was becoming a burden. I also stressed out so much about being a hostess and inviting others into my home. While I think my tolerance for decor is a little higher than hers, Myquillin has truly changed my perspective on making my home cozy with less stuff, using what nature gives us, incorporating all five senses to make our homes reflect each season, and not needing to fill a cart full of cute things at our favorite decor store in order to make our homes feel festive. I also appreciate what she has to say regarding welcoming people into our homes, that it’s not about perfection and making ourselves and our homes look flawless, it’s about making our guests feel special while keeping it simple and inviting them into our imperfect lives to celebrate our human-ness together. I literally read the book within two days of receiving it. If you want to simplify your life while still having a beautiful cozy home each season and feel more relaxed about welcoming friends and family into your home, this book is a must read!

Life changing
Welcome Home will transform your approach to hosting and decorating. She is so inspiring and practical. And funny! I love how she encourages us to be creative instead of a consumer. No one wants to be a slave to their decor.Highly recommend!!!!!

Best entertaining book I have ever read and filled with the best seasonal advice too!
I hate home decorating books!! I mean who needs them with pintrest and the plethora of home bloggers. And really I've only ever read one that I though was great and gave me what I needed and not me trying to make my room just like the writer. Then a friend shared this book and i loved that it was about the seasons and hosting- not just decorating. Here is my note to the author..."I very much enjoyed your Welcome Home classes and book (yes I read the whole thing out of season) and while our new home has NO furniture yet- thinking about decorating for the seasons (hello sounds, smell and taste of autumn even if I cannot make my home LOOK like autumn right now) and thinking about Christmas trimmings helped me already edit furniture choices I might have made.Thank you for writing such a great book!"Off to buy her other books now too.OH and I love that the seasonal decor is not location specific! She totally addresses Florida in autumn/winter styling.

This book is a must read!
I have been following The Nester’s blog since 2009–and she has absolutely changed the way I view decorating and making a house (or apartment, or condo or loft) into a home. She has very no-nonsense advice that has helped me sort out how to approach finding my style, and on a budget. I adore her writing style, and I love her mantra of how things don’t have to be perfect to be beautiful. This book arrived on my front porch this morning, and I’m already on page 53–which is a big deal, because I have a toddler! I’ve used every spare nap-time second to read through this book, as I’ve anticipated it’s arrival since pre-ordering in June! I have her other 2 books as well, and can already say that while I love each this will be my favorite. There are guideline on how to celebrate each season by utilizing all 5 senses, shopping the house and using what you already have, and bringing nature inside. If you love decorating, hosting or the art of making your house a home—this book is a must read.

Gorgeous book about the seasons, your home & hospitality
I love Myquillan Smith - a big fan of all of her books. This one is beautiful. It's about dressing your home in a really down to earth way to reflect the seasons...and share it with others in a simple and achievable way.Thank you Myquillan - I have just got out my Christmas decorations and really enjoyed it, because I was adding to a home that I'd already winterised with off-white faux fur blankets and textured pillows.I love what you wrote about the senses and appealing to these for each season.
