Great cassette player for transferring old cassettes to PC
I'm a lawyer and recently started working on a criminal case where the crime occurred in the mid-1990's when everyone was still using cassette tapes. When I got the file, guess what? There were a ton of cassette tapes! Well, I haven't had a cassette tape player in years and I wanted to digitize the tapes so I could listen to them on my computer. So I bought this bad-boy. It's simply a basic cassette player with a radio, It's not stereo, but for my needs that was fine. So I plugged a cord into the headset jack and ran it to the microphone jack in my computer. I used Audacity, an open source program for making and managing recordings on the computer, and copied the tapes that way. Worked perfectly for my needs.I didn't really test out the radio too much, but it did pick up local stations fairly well and the sound is good for a mono speaker.I was really expecting it to be a piece of junk, but I am pleased with this purchase. If you need a basic cassette player, this is one to consider. One more thing, it has a cord for AC use that you can store in the battery compartment. It can also use batteries, It uses 4 D cells.

Good buy
First one didn't work. Returned it for free through Amazon. Two of the three units I bought don't work with batteries. Other than that, I have no complaints. I've been using the oldest one since February 2016 which lasted until December 2018 when the volume started malfunctioning. Volume sometimes goes way down to where I can't hear it well enough. Just bought another one to replace it - still a good value. Update on the battery issue: you have to install the battery in the lower chamber when it is in a horizontal position. It won't go in if you try to install it at an angle. So there was no problem with the two I mentioned that "don't work with batteries".

Nostalgia
Works just fine. I found a box of cassettes and wanted to listen to them. I didn’t have a cassette tape player. This radio was just right.

It's perfect for what I need it for and the price was right.
This was a replacement. The first one came without the plug but they quickly made it right. I needed something to play "The Attacking Anxiety & Depression" tapes with Lucinda's and other voices on them. The tapes are from 1997. The sound is perfect for what I need it for. I wouldn't recommend earphones because the tapes have a bit of a background noise that you can't hear while playing the tapes with the speaker. The relaxation tape (although I like the other one she has better) did have some background music and sounded pretty good. I tried a couple of music tapes but they didn't sound good. But it's probably due to tape quality. If I try other music tapes I'll revise. I've had it two weeks but feel fine about possibly buying another one for a family member that also wants to listen to the tapes.

AWFUL! JUST AWFUL!
I know, I know. Who makes or even needs cassette players anymore? And what do I expect for twenty bucks, right? Well, I guess I expected a little more than this. Tapes dragged and skipped on this thing immediately out of the box. And what happened when it did play? To say that the sound was tinny beyond belief doesn't say nearly enough. Everything sounded like it was played by a maniac with a tin whistle.I only wanted an inexpensive little cassette player to play some old cassettes that I can't find on any other media these days. After this, I guess I'll give up on the whole idea. I just can't begin to tell you how crappy this thing is. (By the way, I've never, ever written a review this critical before, but there's just no way to say this nice. Sorry.)

Does the job well?
I bought this for my kids to listen to old cassettes with. They have went through so many tape players, and I decided to try something different in hopes of it lasting a little longer. It’s had one week of heavy use and still working fine. Sound is clear, and good for a tape player. If it is still working after one year, I will be delighted! Time will tell.

It's as good as I expected for very old technology. I was just happy to find something.
I have a friend with some very old cassettes she could not play, including voice recordings of relatives who had past on. She wanted to be able to listen to them and this player did the job. I wasn't expecting much from very old technology and this wasn't great, but did exceed my expectations and seems to work quite well. While the sound is not great, having lived in the 60s and 70s, it's as good as it was then, so I'm pleased with the product, especially given the low cost. It's a good value and suited my needs.
