The mute works very well, tones down the loudness significantly while still allowing proper intonation. There is also not a lot of back pressure unless you really jam the mute into the horn too deeply, with which you might get some back pressure.Others may disagree but I do not even notice it is there, and I have no issues staying in tune. I do not need to lip any note higher or lower and it works well in the full trumpet range to G5 / A6, which is about as high as I play. The trumpet also slots the same as when I play without it.What is more important is the price of this mute and the value you will get.I have purchased "numerous" other practice mutes with the goal of being able to practice in my home while others are sleeping or otherwise do not want to be disturbed.I have paid as little as $11 - for this mute - and as much as $99 for "professional" practice mutes. This inexpensive mute sounds and plays as good or better than any other mute at any other price. As a bonus, this one is the lightest and least conspicuous of the bunch. If you are looking for a practice mute and you have a standard sized bell then this is the mute for you. However, if you are looking for a specific sound, keep in mind the purpose of this mute is to decrease the volume of your playing. If you want to enhance or change the color of your sound then you need to get the appropriate mute to enhance the sound, which is a completely different type of mute, such as what Harmon would make for their trademark sound, and which Miles Davis made famous. For a practice mute, this is what you need.Ciao.++++++++++Four Year UpdateI did not stop buying other practice mutes and over the course of four years purchased a super expensive 3D printed practice mute made for my horn, a super expensive carbon fiber mute, and a couple I've seen other players use on YT. I figure they play way better than me so they probably know way better than me.But, not so.Another $300 later and this is still the best practice mute I have used. The carbon fiber is probably second. The rest are just not worth even trying.Do yourself a favor and buy this mute. Only caveat is if you have a big bell and super wide taper your horn will suck this mute up and it will be hard to play. That said, it works just fine on my Bach, Yamaha and Blessing.
