5 star litRPG
I had reservations leading into this. I read litRPG almost exclusively ,but rarely enjoy books where the MC is able to log in and out of the game at will. The stakes just usually aren't there. There was a little bit of that with this book, but the writing was just so well done that I found I was able to very happily ignore it.The female protagonist is strong, smart and avoids the pitfalls of dumb, plot driven decisions. Storyline is interesting. Magic and leveling system was pretty good, although illusion and shadow based powers aren't really my favourite. Storyline dragged in places, with the whole thing feeling like a big slow burn setting up future books - an example of this being the 'Big Bad' who was introduced over multiple chapters, but never actually did anything or had any sort of confrontation with the hero.Still, I'd give this 5 stars within the litrpg genre. It's a fun, well written read.3.5-4 stars compared to the wider fantasy market. If you found this review helpful, please click the button below so it can assist other people too.

This was fun
Really different take on the plotline which became really interesting. The cliffhanger at the end is just annoying. Makes me want to skip the next book

Enjoyable story that makes me want to read more.
This is the first LitRPG book I have read and honestly I was leery about the genre as a whole initially because of how women are usually portrayed in stories based on gaming worlds, etc. But people seemed to really like and recommend this series, so I figured I’d read the first book and decided from there. Needless to say, I love it and plan on reading the rest of the series in the future. The main character is fun to read and is engaging throughout the book. I definitely found myself rooting for her and wanting to know more about her and the worlds she was in. I also loved that the ‘real world’ was based in Saint George, UT as I lived in southern Utah for a time and the place is close to my heart. So it was fun to see how the author imagined the place being 50 or so years in the future.Tl;dr - Great book, I plan on reading more and I want to know what Devon is going to encounter in future books!

Off the rails LitRPG fun!
I read a lot of LitRPG stuff and this one popped up on some chat log about a month ago for me. I bought it, figured I'd give it a try when I caught up on all the other series I read. I'm very happy I did! This book is a good foundation for a series and has a great world to learn more about. I really enjoy the MC's creativity is using her spells and abilities. The NPCs and how they grow and interact with each other is great too. What good is a world if the characters in it are boring and one-sided?If you want to start a new series and look forward to following a fun character save her part of a game world pick this up!

enjoyable story
This is an enjoyable start of a series that focuses mostly on Devon, a gamer who's out of a beloved game and low on funds. When she's offered the chance to go full immersion in a new game, she takes it and finds herself set away from the normal game opening and left to forge ahead on her own. This is the start of a series so there are plotlines and hints that won't be wrapped up, but the initial storyline is. No cliffhangers, but lots of teases that makes me want to read the next one.Devon is an interesting long-time gamer in that she doesn't go seeking out the game boards (usually) or the walk throughs. Discovering this new world is entertaining seen through her eyes, and the snark of the game AI in quest setting is entertaining as well.

Got me hooked
I saw this book on a Facebook ad. On a whim, I decided to give it a try since I had not heard of this new LitRPG genre. The book was hard to put down! I don't think I've been this into a book in a while (recent reading includes the Golden Compass trilogy, the first two Wheel of Time books, Ursula Le Guin - Hainish cycle, Expanse series, and H.P. Lovecraft). Although I have not played any MMORPG's or D&D, I have played plenty of other RPG computer & video games, so I could follow along perfectly well. However, someone without an RPG background probably would not enjoy it as much. But yeah, I kinda felt like I was playing an RPG game as I was reading. Since I haven't read any other LitRPG books, I don't know how this one compares, but from what I've heard, this one has a unique base building element to it. But yeah, good book. Quick read. (And the next book has me even more hooked!)

Shocking Shadows Scooby-Doo
I really enjoyed this story. It's set in a not so modern future ( I would guess 50 years or at most 100 years separation) so nothing from irl is really that extravagant or different. gaming has expanded just enough to stick gamer's in pods at something a kin to internet cafes and to require surgery for the actual immersive experience. The book does a bit of jumping around of narrators and grinding sessions so the chapters are short.Devon, the heroine, is an experienced gamer with some decent insights on RPGs she even avoids getting railroaded to hard. The World building of the game is minimal naming the two Ai as the only dieties. The two Ais compete to control PC's experience and creates a standard ditheism in the world.I really enjoyed reading this I'll be looking forward to buying the next copy
