Action-Packed Technicolor Swashbuckler
The Universal Vault Series DVD of "Against All Flags" exceeds expectation. The picture is crystal clear --- better than several Blu rays of other classic films I've seen. The Technicolor is brilliant with many scenes filmed on location. The audio is superb --- no hissing soundtrack, and the music is rousing, fit for an exciting swashbuckler such as this.In 1700, a band of pirates have a base on Madagascar, and an officer in the British Navy pretends to be a deserter so he can join the pirates and gain their confidence while he gains information to help the British. During the course of the film are duels, kidnapping of an Indian princess, ship battles, fierce pirates, booming cannons, jealous lovers --- all the elements of action-packed adventure! The acting is par for a pirate film of this time period. Heroic Errol Flynn, lovely Maureen O'Hara, villainous Anthony Quinn do their best, but the action and Technicolor take top honors.Shiver your timbers, buckle your swashes, and hang on tight for adventure on the high seas!

My last film review.
A fairly decent pirate epic staring Erol Flynn, Maureen O'Hara and Anthony Quinn, with a very crystal clear image courtesy the blue ray format. The story is a bit of a variant on the pirate formula. Flynn plays a British naval officer bent on bringing pirates operating out of Madagascar to justice. He find some unusual allies along the way.The sociological portion of this film regards a potential inter-racial relationship between Flynn's character and an Indian Princess, which is never fully realized, but has a kind of political weight to it.Like some other pirate films that were late comers, there isn't as much ship to ship action as in previous films of the genre, but there's a good amount of action all the same. Some of the acting is a little stiff but passable, but either way it's still a pretty good story with a decent plot to it.If you want to see a decent pirate movie from the hay-day of pirate films, then check this one out.

Great new release of Errol Flynn swashbuckler
I've seen Against All Flags in multiple formats (including an original Technicolor film print) and this new release from Kino Lorber Classics represents the lush color and cinematography as well as I've ever seen it. Flynn is perfect as the British spy planted in a pirate stronghold run by the "Captains of the Coast" including brash Roc Brascigliano (Anthony Quinn) and feisty "Spitfire" Stevens (Maureen O'Hara). This is probably Flynn's best film from his final decade and presents him in a believable role that suits his abilities making fine use of his swashbuckling skills. There is quite a bit of not-too-subtle sexual innuendo that is a bit surprising for this period but plays perfectly between Flynn and O'Hara. The story and characters are all well defined. Simply put...if you are a fan of Flynn's earlier adventures (Captain Blood, Adventures of Robin Hood, etc.) you would probably really enjoy this more "mature" outing. He's in fine form, Quinn is excellent as his foe and O'Hara radiant as his would-be love interest. The entire affair practically jumps off the screen in a beautiful transfer worthy of the term "Glorious Technicolor". Highly Recommended.

Lots of action
Some stiff acting, but otherwise an enjoyable film.

Lotsa fun!
I have seen Errol Flynn in westerns and war movies where he is decidedly mediocre, but in the swashbuckling rogue role, there is nobody better. If you liked either Robin Hood or Captain Blood, you'll enjoy this, too. Quinn is a great actor, but I disliked many of his most memorable roles - he often seemed to take himself too seriously. Here he is just enjoying himself, and it shows. O'Hara's character left a lot to be desired, but that is probably due more to poor writing or direction, and not her performance.

Three stars battle for supreme Pirate and Gold!
Flynn, O’Hara and Quinn battle each other in this fantastic Color picture filmed in 1952 as a swashbuckling adventure for domineering battle against wits and swords along with knives from O’Hara. One name will come out on top. Who will that be? Great picture and audio yet not capable of 4K brilliance.

Pirates and Hereford bull
Featuring two movie's with one or two years apart in Maureen O'Hara's career and starring along side two of Hollywood's greats, the first of the films is a real swashbuckler on the high seas. Set In 1700, the pirates of Madagascar menace the India trade British officer Brian Hawke has himself cashiered, flogged, and set adrift to infiltrate the pirate "republic." There, Hawke meets lovely Spitfire Stevens, a pirate captain in her own right, and the sparks begin to fly; but wooing a pirate poses unique problems. Especially after he rescues adoring young Princess Patma from a captured ship. Meanwhile, Hawke's secret mission proceeds to an action-packed climax. In the second When her husband dies en route to America, Martha Price and her daughter Hilary are left to carry out his dream: the introduction of Hereford cattle into the American West. They enlist Sam "Bulldog" Burnett in their efforts to transport their lone bull, a Hereford named Vindicator, to a breeder in Texas, but the trail is fraught with danger and even Burnett doubts the survival potential of this "rare breed" of cattle. Two very enjoyable films from the old school of movie making and excellent value as I hadn't realised the came as a double bill when I ordered them 9/10.

A Precious Errol Flynn Movie in Excellent Blu Ray
Against All Flags (Blu-Ray & DVD Combo) (Blu-Ray) A rarely seen Errol Flynn movie, directed by George Sherman, with beautiful Maureen O'Hara and a young Anthony Qunn, for decades unavailable practically in any format, so a must-have for his fans, in a truly splendid remastering, both video and audio, for Blu Ray. I give it only 4 stars for the lack of subtitles, except Dutch, a menu without scenes selection and absolutely no extras. Against All Flags (Blu-Ray & DVD Combo) (Blu-Ray)
