Great for adding depth + not bitter
Great for adding to stews, soups or chili's as it adds depth of flavour. Also really great that it has added vitamin D, which is good for me as I don't eat meat. I think it would work well in meat dishes as well as veggie. It also adds flavour and nutrition when you sprinkle it on top of things like pasta or salads. It's good value compared to other nutritional yeast products I've tried in the past too, which is a bonus.

Delicious and healthy!
We received this product through the Amazon Vine review program.Brand & Packaging:- We have not heard of this brand before and it appears to be a relatively new brand on Amazon so were keen to try a few of their products. A quick google search seems to suggest that it’s only available on Amazon and the southgarden.eu website is currently not available. This is a worrying as we prefer to have some evidence on the quality and integrity of the product and manufacturer.Packaging wise the product is security sealed as you have to tear/cut off the top to open. The press seal works fine so there was no need to transfer to another container. Here are our thoughts on the South Garden Nutritional Yeast Flakes:-Best Before – the best before date was easy to find and read and the item was not short dated as we have over a year and a bit on the clock.NRV – The NRVs are clearly displayed for 100g but not for individual servings but the packet does explain that 10g will exceed the NRV for Vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B9, B12 and the same for zinc. Vitamin D levels are shown in IU. Each 10g provides 1400 IU which is almost twice the amount we found on some online health based resources.Minimal Processing – this product is raw so this should have limited processingSuitable for Vegan/Vegetarians – This product is indeed suitable for vegans and therefore vegetarians. Whilst we are neither it is still something we would look for where there is no need for animal products e.g. milk for lactose intolerance.Organic – This product is not organic.Potential Health Benefits:- This product is high in protein, vitamins B and D, folic acid and pantothenic acid which is good brain function.Taste – We like the taste of this and it goes really well with tomatoes. We have a slight glut from the garden and we sprinkle this on top of the cut toms. It adds a slightly cheesy and slightly sour flavour which brings out the flavour of the toms. we like the idea of winter baked beans on toast with this sprinkled on top!Overall Recommendation: we enjoyed trying this product and can see us using nutritional yeast flakes going forward.

An essential for any vegan
This resealable pouch of Nutritional Yeast (aka Nooch as it is known in the vegan community) is going to last you some time at 250g, since a fairly large sprinkling is around 2.5g, so 100+ large servings in this packet I'd say.The packet was well dated with a good 16 months of shelf life. The Nooch itself has a nice golden colour to it, as opposed to my normal supermarket nooch. The photo I took doesn't do it justice as the South Garden variety is on the left has a richer colour than the other popular brand on the right. The South Garden nooch also has a slightly stronger taste and so will provide a strong nutty, cheesy flavour and can easily used to provide a cheesy twang to dishes. I sprinkle it on most meals, on baked beans, on marmite on toast, vegan macaroni cheese, you name it, I nooch it.Overall it is a really good quality nutritional yeast. So why only four stars... well it comes down to price and I'm not sure the significant price difference (at the time of review) between this and supermarket nooch is worth the difference. If you like premium nooch, then maybe it is.

Good quantity, flakes easily crushed in bag
I usually buy yeast flakes from a local store. It’s a small tub and costs around £4 for 125 grams, so it works out a little cheaper. However, once you put parking / bus fees on, it makes little difference and it’s convenient to have this sent to my house and in a larger supply.Pros: Resealable bag, long shelf life, good quantityCons: A little more expensive, a bit dusty as the flakes are easily crushedFYI: 10gms is about 4 heaped teaspoons.Yeast flakes are a great source of vitamin B12, something many of us are lacking but don’t always realise. They recommend you use 10grams per portion but honestly, I flavour to taste and usually use more.I taste-tested these straight off of the spoon and was instantly hit with that delicious marmite taste. If you don’t like marmite, this might not be the product for you! These are vegan and I often use yeast extract or flakes in stews to give them a “meaty” flavour as I’ve been a vegetarian for over 20 years. This particular product smells a little more “toasted” and I quite like that. You can use these like a salad sprinkle. They don’t dissolve particularly well if you’re wanting to use them in stock.

South Garden Nutrional Yeast Flakes Tasty Topping
I’ve heard of yeast and use it in bread making and beer but sprinkling on food a new one to me. Ever so eager to try it out as well as other members of family as tend to use grated hard cheese as a topping on some foods. So to see if this was any tastier with it being nutritional too was something we were interested in.This resealable bag is long dated so no worries about it going off, roughly sixteen months on my pack of it so a long time. Not a make I have come across before now on Amazon or elsewhere but one I’d look at again. This is a good one for using with pasta as a tasty but nutritional topping especially if not eating properly thus making sure you get some goodness and vitamins. Also good sprinkled on pizzas as an extra tasty flavour topping. Even spaghetti bol it tastes good sprinkled on top. Currently now looking at other ways to use it too thinking maybe cold pasta salads with this added to it.
