Different but interesting
The game is different to most ordinary Digimon games. It is a story telling game with a strategic grid, turn based battle system.

Really surprising but great Digimon game!
I've been anticipating this game since the moment it was announced, delays and all, and I'm not disappointed at all. I'm pretty far into the game and I'll give my impressions of it so far. I'll update this review after finishing the game, but I'm optimistic that my opinion of it will be higher when that happens. So let's get a major point out of the way: this is largely a "visual novel" game. For those unfamiliar, that means it's heavily story-based with a ton of dialogue and text to read/listen to (partially voiced, Japanese only). You'll have some control of who you talk to and where to go, but it'll be through more "point and click" actions and menus. And you'll make significant decisions that impact gameplay and/or story.Speaking of the story, it's surprisingly mature and dark for a Digimon game. Horror and thriller elements abound. The name is relevant, as survival is a huge overtone for the game's theme and story. So in addition to being a visual novel, this is a a SRPG/TRPG (strategy RPG/tactical RPG). There are combat segments to the game where your Digimon fight others on a grid-based area with turn-based play. You have your main partners, which can evolve, and you can "capture" other Digimon in encounters in a Persona or Shin Megami Tensei style, where you speak to the Digimon, answer their questions, and then ask them to join you if you answer well according to their personality. Game as a whole really reminds me of SMT: Devil Survivor, which is a huge plus for me and anyone else who likes that. The graphics aren't AAA, but are still beautiful and stylistic. I really enjoy the characters and the backgrounds, but they may not be everyone's cup of tea.Honestly I really love the game so far, and I recommend anyone on the fence to give it a try. Like I said I'll update this review with my final thoughts, but still. Give this a try!Update: I finished my first playthrough in about 30 hours, and still gotta say this was a really good game. Not perfect, but still great if you're okay with visual novels with gameplay elements. If you don't like visual novels, then watch a little footage of it online first as this might not be for you.Only negative I'll give is that the combat is pretty simplistic and honestly a little too easy, even on the hardest difficulty. It wasn't bad - I've played bad before, but that part could've been better.
