good introduction to project management for beginners
This is a great book to read for people who are starting to learn about project management for the first time. The authors of the book explain project management principles in a way that does not overwhelm individuals.Overall takeaways from the book:“Project management is as much about effectively leading people as it is about skillfully managing a process.”“Without project management discipline, we lose direction.”“Your goal is to understand the unique perspectives and desired results of each key stakeholder before you begin the project.”“Successful project leaders practice accountability because it reinforces informal authority and ensures project success.”

An Unofficial Treat
A great, concise explanation on the five processes from the PMBOK with up to date and relevant examples/case studies. Some sections felt way too simplistic, but were not that many or that crucial to undermine significantly the book's success at training unofficial PMs.

Excellent Read; Helpful Tools
This book takes you through the project management steps, gives you tools to succeed, and uses case studies to reinforce the concepts. I have been an "unofficial project manager" for ten years, and I wish I could have read this when I started.

Perfect for a novice project manager
I was placed in charge of implementing a big policy change at work that would take 6 months from planning to completion. This book was a God send.It has step by step instructions, sample forms, how to gain buy in from superiors and references for further information. We're 4 months in and it's going great thanks to this book.

A MUST READ
All you need to know for any conversation up or down your project talent stream. No wonder this title is included under the Franklin Covey umbrella of learning tools. This trio of writers have collaborated to write a no nonsense (which is to say a sensible) guidebook for every phase of project management. This title needs to be included in your toolbox and the toolbox of those you collaborate with - be of a similar mind - go get things done!

Good information, but tedious format.
I got the points, but the "case studies" in this were a little painful to read. The dialogue was a bit overproduced and phony, and I understand the scenarios were exaggerated for a reason, but I kind of felt like a kindergartener being read to before nap time. Seemed this book could have been about 100 pages shorter if the fluff was cut out.

A great book for anyone working on projects or programs of any size.
In this interesting take on what the essence of project management really is, the authors draw on a variety of experiences in which people who are individual contributors on a project actually use one or more project management competency. Considering any project or program of decent size normally involves the efforts of dozen to hundreds of people, there is a vast audience for this book. While this work does show how project management can inform and even make the working lives of non-project managers better, it is careful to caveat its advice by showing areas where more advanced study or experience is needed to fully execute a function to the level expected of an official project manager. As a credentialed program manager (PMP), I really did not get a lot out of this book personally, but I did like its bare-boned and practical nature. I think that had I read this book before obtaining my credential it would have been very worthwhile. In my case, this book was a monthly pick by our local Project Management Institute book club to which I'm a part. I highly recommend this book for professionals of all types since even if they are in a technical field, to progress they will have to use and / or master many of the skills in this book someday.

Very useful book
This book is worthy of review. How nice it is to get a book which actually delivers on its promises rather then be a disappointment. This book at 200 or so pages, is nice and quick to get to grips with rather than other huge project management books. The info is to the point and what u need to know to make a project work without a load of pain down the line, for instance not properly getting all stakeholders expectations clearly mapped and agreed at the initiation stage of the project.Follow all the guidance in this book and your project is not going to backfire with you taking the blame.I very much recommend this book. I think the difference is I have used this book as the template for a recent project and what a difference it made. Rather than projects keeping me awake at night, I can handle it with this.
