I knew so little about Margaret Douglas except as a mention in books about Mary Queen of Scots. Wonderfully written and enjoyable. Review: The other side of the Tudors - Easy reading as it is written like a novel but without all the descriptive text. ie: verbs and whimsical character thoughts. Full of information and a lovely insight into history. Well recommended

Not at all recommended
Dull and not especially fact filled. I think the author watched Disney's Brave as she was writing this book. I half expect the read that Henry VIII's sister was tuned into a bear. History is sloppy, too much conjecture on what she felt or thought. Skip it!

Good Solid Effort
Really, I liked it. Interesting reading about a lesser known Tudor. Nothing riveting but good information.

I liked it. if filled in the caps between Margaret ...
I liked it. if filled in the caps between Margaret Tudor (Henry VIII sister) and her other children of that line. What a treacherous time to live, especially if you were remotely related to the royal line. I thought it was very well written.

Historically Inaccurate Description
I didn't buy the book - I'm rating the description. The arrangement of the marriage of Mary Stuart to Darnley did not anger Margaret's uncle Henry, as he was long dead by the time. Henry tried to get Mary for his son, Edward, but failed. She married the son of the King of France instead. Darnley was her second husband. The Stuart-Darnley marriage would have angered Elizabeth, who was the queen by then.

Very detailed and true to the era, the author used letters sent at the time in the 'English' of that era to give it depth. Well written and most enjoyable!

Extremely informative and fascinating. Well told with interest. I have learned so much from this exciting book. Would highly recommend it.

not an easy read but worth persevering

A very disappointing book. There are numerous appalling, basic errors (e.g."Henry (VIII) and Margaret's grandfather, Henry VII"), confusions (e.g. referring to Margaret's husband as Archibald Douglas, Earl of Angus, then as Angus, Earl of Douglas) and a poor writing style. These in just the first few pages. The chapters are ridiculously brief and interrupt any flow that might be possible if it were not for the grammar and writing style. The book seems to waiver between historical fiction and an attempt at serious history, and consequently achieves neither. I read a lot of history texts and fiction and I am not encouraged to read anything from this writer again.
