Clever, gripping, and brilliantly acted – a modern whodunit done right
Really enjoyed this movie. The cast is excellent across the board, with Ana de Armas giving a standout performance. The plot is really well thought out – clever without feeling convoluted, and full of satisfying twists.I'd also recommend the sequel; it has a different feel but is equally good in its own right. Definitely worth watching if you like smart, stylish mysteries.

Very good film with clever plot twists
This film has a great cast and clever writing. Even watching it for a second time this film is still a great watch.

Sensational, masterful acting and directing
Knives Out was the most brilliantly acted, directed and produced film I have seen in a very long time. The whole cast produced performances which spoke to the heart of human character and relationship. They invoked the archetypal nature of the interactions and expressions between family members and associates, and they did it with humour and passion.

A mixed bag
There's much to like in this movie. It's a great role for Daniel Craig, and he seems to really relish it - he leans into every moment the script gives him. The central idea is interesting, and the ensemble cast features some fantastic talent. But it never quite comes together for me.The main issue is the script. It feels like it needed another pass. It's a good deal tighter than, shall we say, other Rian Johnson efforts. But there are a few too many situations that bend credibility almost to breaking point, and in a few cases beyond. It's difficult to believe that, in the real world, things would work out the way they do here (and this is very much set in the real world, so verisimilitude is important). The big central 'twist', you will see coming from MILES away. And because very few of the characters get real 'moments', most remain in the realm of caricature. One such character, possibly the most interesting, is the house itself. Christopher Plummer's character, and his house, is clearly inspired by Stephen King (and his house), and it would have been wonderful to have seen a little more of the property - a montage sequence at the start promises exactly that, but Johnson never delivers. Instead, he leaves the house to deliver a poorly thought through and jarring car chase, which feels completely out of place here and somewhat surreal. Had I have been handed this script, frankly my first decision would have been to set the entire movie in the house, and I feel this would have been much more in keeping with the tone you'd expect from this sort of picture. There are, however, some really good moments. Plummer delivers an excellent performance, as does Jamie Lee Curtis. And I would be interested to see another movie with Craig inhabiting this character. With a stronger script - and perhaps a stronger director - he could really deliver something special.

Good yarn !
A bit apprehensive at First about Daniel Craig playing a detective with a deep-south accent, but this was quickly dispelled with an accomplished performance by him and the other star cast. A really good performance all round. The story-line twists & turns and keeps you engaged with this yarn from the first scene to the last. If you like your detective stories not too dry and serious, this film is for you - not a comedy, but a good dose of humour !Well-produced, star cast, great entertainment … Well worth the rental fee 👍

Surprisingly good movie
After Johnson castrated Star Wars with The Last Jedi I feared the worse with this movie, but here he goes back to what he does best. Johnson has always done well when creating and telling his own story rather than trying to adapt his way of film making to a franchise. He excels at the twist, at, as he says it best, dividing the fans, lol. Here no doubt some fans of the Whodunit genre might feel aggrieved at the liberties he takes in telling his story, but for me I found it a fun movie even if, at times, predictable.I blame decades of watching Columbo for being able to figure out some parts of this story before they happened, and yes, at times it plays more like the movie Clue than a down to earth murder mystery, but overall I found the acting just fine and amusing as the cast knew what characters they were playing and went right for it. Craig especially seemed to be enjoying chewing the scenery in places which was enjoyable to watch. So if you want to watch a slightly off kilter whodunit which is rather tongue in cheek then I highly recommend this movie.

Utterly Nailed It
Superb, simply superb. The 'whodunnit' genre is a genre inhabited by vast acres of books and films which, for the most part are fairly forgettable daytime TV reading and watching. The odd grand scale movie is often a miss such as the recent 'Murder on the Orient Express.'This one is not that. It is utterly wonderful with just the right amount of slightly pantomime character acting. It is in many ways Cluedo brought to life. The actors and actresses must have had a blast taking their character quirks and just making them a tad more extreme. The star of the show is Daniel Craig who gives his best performance I've seen. He hams it up perfectly as a consulting detective from the south. His character is a mix of Sherlock Holmes, Columbo and Col Sanders of KFC fame. The plot is brilliant. Really. It allows the film to romp along at a decent pace and at the same time ensure you stay focused on the wrong bits.Overall, one of the most enjoyable films I've seen in a while.
