Great singing artist
After Nat Cole and Johnny Mathis this guy really takes the best crooner of his generation award. Very romantic mood.

Indescribably Delicious
This cd is actually two LP's that Johnny recorded in Tokyo. It's just tremendous. For those not familiar with Hartman, he's the male singer on the Bridges of Madison County soundtrack. He was an associate of John Coltrane for a time, thus the title; but the band is actually a Japanese quartet playing a very much Miles Davis 1955 style. What a world.... Hartman had so much talent, but hardly anyone cared. Thanks to Clint Eastwood he's finally getting a fair hearing.Light the candles, pour the wine, and cuddle with your love.

Perfect addition to any Johnny Hartman collection
I liked the showing of the different styles, although I am a hardcore ballad fan of J.H. I recommend this album.

Crank this baby up and take it on the road with you . Like me
I'm one of those folks who really likes to hear the band stretch out on vocal records . That makes this a good one for me and possibly you too . I was fortunate when listening to one of my Pandora radio stations to hear a track off this recording featuring trumpeter Terumasa Hino . I was familiar with him but unaware this record existed . First the pros .1. There's two different piano , acoustic bass and drum trios on this date .2. The first trio , comprised of players I'm unfamiliar with , is really swinging and tight .3 . This first trio joins John for the first three selections .4. A second piano led trio resumes with track number four and gives it's bassist one of two beautiful solo features on the recording .5. The discs first five songs are trio and voice . Terumasa's brother Motohiko (Sailing Stone) is the drummer for the second trio .6. There's copious , well recorded piano ALL over these two sessions . Beautiful intros , comping , several solo features and a good number of tunes that swing .7. When Terumasa enters the picture for the last six tunes , his playing is wonderful and varied (muted , non muted) and his solos are fantastic .8. Both bassists and drummers are excellent as well .9. Johnny is exceptionally relaxed and clearly having a great time . In good voice . The cons1. Johnny is exceptionally relaxed and makes a few unusual choices . During Nature Boy , John sings about being told "while walking down the street" about sage wisdom .2. On a couple of songs , John clicks his fingers throughout the songs duration (not a big deal) . John sings kinda overly hip in some areas as well (a bit out of character to my ears at least) . Well , there you have it . The pros FAR outway the cons . Increasingly glad to have this very different Hartman disc in my library . Give it the road test yourself . And make certain to crank up the volume .

A Reissue
This CD is a reissue with a notation that the reissue was produced by Michael Cuscuna. It sounds as if remastered or re-produced -- and not well. The balance and mixing are off.
