This book is awesome! I've been doing yoga, surfing, and jogging for years but this book just in the first few workout chapters is very challenging and fun. I bought the companion DVD from his site as Amazon does not sell it (or I could not find it). This book has a few chapters on mind conditioning, posture, etc. (which is very important). Additionally he talks about the Shaloin Temple and what that training is like. The pictures in this book are lovely and the breakdown of each technique is great. I would recommend getting the DVD though, Shifu really pushes you and to see some of the techniques is very helpful.

Incredibly Inspiring
This is a lovely book with striking photos and large, easy-to-read text on high-quality paper that doesn't stick together when you sweat. As others have noted, this book is accessible to beginners starting their martial arts journey.You can tell Shifu Yan Lei has dedicated many years to mastering martial arts - he is incredibly inspiring.Should you buy this book, even in 2023?I'd say if you're like me and try to unplug while working out, absolutely - add it to your cart now. The photos alone are worth more than the asking price of this book, in my opinion.Shifu provides a plethora of free video content you can leverage in addition to this book. So, if you prefer videos and using your device to follow along, this book may end up as a coffee table book - still worth it for book lovers.The book is perfect for referencing during your workout - watch the video in your room and practice, once you've got it (enough), take the book outside and practice device-free. I love this book and thank you Shifu Yan Lei for creating this wonderful resource.

Great Book By A Great Teacher
There is nobody quite like Shifu Yan Lei and this is a great book by a great teacher. I always feel so blessed and fortunate to receive the genuine teachings of any Shaolin who has put in all the years of discipline and hard work and dedication and the knowledge that he shares with the world is just sacred to me. Very readable and easy to follow you just have to take your time with it, be patient with your body and allow the process to unfold which it will.

A great workout for body and mind
I am a big fan of Shifu Yan Lei Shi, I have his other book, "Qigong". The 2 books together will make the perfect workout. He knows his stuff -- this is the real thing. He is a Shaolin monk who trained at the real Shaolin Temple. This book will teach you what kung fu is really about, mastering your mind and body and knowing yourself. It is also a great workout!There are gorgeous photos in and around the Shaolin Temple in China. What a beautiful place! And for the workout there are step-by-step photos and instructions.

Helped start routine.
I have both this book and Shifu Yan Lei Shi's book Qigong. I don't usually write reviews however for this item I will make an exception. The written details and pictures in this book is amazing, I have suffered from mental health issues and have not had the energy to do anything, I bought this book after seeing Shifu's YouTube videos and I'm glad I did. I started with 5 mins every day and I noticed the effects after about 1-2 weeks. I recommend having a look at his YouTube videos as well as purchasing this book.

Great book
This book will get you fit. It will seem tough at first, but keep going, and you'll get there. But you do need Shifu Yan Lei's qigong book as well. Kung fu and qigong balance each other out. But anyway, this book is easy to follow, plenty of pictures, and great for a kung fu beginner.

Tolles Buch für den Einstieg
Ich arbeite mit dem Buch seit ca 2 Monaten. Es ist gut strukturiert und die Übungen sind anschaulich erklärt. Neben der Einführung in das Shaolin Kung Fu, gibt es auch gute Passagen zum Thema Mindset. Darüber hinaus werden Dehnübungen, Grundstellungen, Ernährung und fortgeschrittene Stellungen sowie ein Basis Workout vorgestellt. Ich nutze das Buch vor Allem, wenn ich im Wald bin und dort die Übungen umsetzen kann.

It's a*****MASTERPIECE.Well explain,well details,instructional photos.I really love & enjoy this ¨BIBLE¨ Same thing with ; INSTANT FITNESS QI GONG WORKOUT FOR LONGEVITY.You can't GO WRONG BUY IT.I'm 73 years old,I've practice TAE KWON DO for 15 years )many moons ago) (LOL) but I have always stretch and a bit more exercises and this book BOOST ME .SHIFU YAN LEI ,explain his life,MONK WAY OF LIFE that every human being can practice in their daily life.
