VERY sturdy! But short. Has not broken in 9 months
How many grabbers have you bought and had break on you? The reason is not only quality of materials and manufacturing, but also the length of it. It's very simple, basic Physics. The longer it is, the more stress on the close end of it, not only the grabber itself, but one's hand and wrist. This is shorter than I thought it would be (listed at 21" iirc). Apparently all the length given (in all of them) is not from inside the grip to the ends of the "tongs", but from the extreme end of each end, so this one is some 3 to 5 inches shorter than the listed overall length (mine measures 18 to 19 inches that way). I won't go through all the Physics involved (I used to be a Mechanical Engineer), but shorter really is better and this one will really pick up what it says, straight up and down... not at an angle. At an angle, I don't believe the grabber would be the weak link, it would be one's hand grip strength and wrist strength (even more being required for a longer one). Avoid the ones that fold up like the virus! It's a weak link and I, personally, have never had one last more than a few months before that joint breaks (I currently have one with about a dozen layers of Duct Tape that is still adequate for far reaching and light weights, think less than one pound).I find it perfectly adequate for picking up things next to me in the wheelchair and reaching most things in the kitchen. An added benefit in its short length is that it allows one to bring something close by one's self to be brought back to the person's core body where it can be retrieved more easily. If one occasionally needs a longer one, get a second one (or jury rig the old broken one that you have), but you'll find yourself using this one much more.YES, I was shocked when I saw just how short it was. But in retrospect, it's the perfect length. Not unwieldy to handle, very durable and well built, strong enough for any reasonable load (that the person can handle, not so much the grabber). It's the best one I've had in 15 to 20 years!! No lie. Trust me, get this short one. You'll be shocked at the length too, but use it for a while before returning it. Hopefully you'll find it as useful as I have.

Best one I have owned yet
It picks up things up to 8 pounds in weight and lock so it can be stored in a smaller area.
