Excellent, Strong, Lightweight, (79g), Inexpensive Ball Head; Perfect For Hiking
I bought this to use on a dual use trekking pole monopod, and to mount my Canon DSLR T5i with an 18-135mm lens and a battery grip. The total combined weight of my Canon T5i camera, 18-135mm lens, and battery grip is exactly 3 lbs. The Ball can firmly secure my camera setup without a sweat. I Do Not have to tighten the screw hard at all to firmly lock the camera in place. Only a small amount of force is necessary to firmly lock the camera where I want it, and the camera does not sag or start to droop whatsoever, in either landscape orientation or, turned 90 degrees, in portrait orientation. At first I was concerned because when I turned the camera 90 degrees to portrait orientation the camera began to droop forward because of the fairly heavy zoom lens, but that turned out to be user error, or in other words, my fault. It didn't sag at the ball joint whatsoever. The problem was I didn't have the camera screwed on tight enough to the ball head. You can't see it in the photo, but beneath the black round disc on the post is a metal stop. To see the metal stop you have to unscrew the metal disc on top of the post. The disc on top of the post screws upward toward your camera to lock the camera in place. But using the disc alone to secure the camera didn't work for me, (the camera began to sag). The solution was to first unscrew the disc down enough to show the metal stop and screw the camera down onto the metal stop, and then finish tightening the camera to the ball head by screwing the disc back up to the camera body.It is not as complicated as I am perhaps making it sound. unfortunately the picture on Amazon does not show the metal stop, so you can't see what I'm talking about. But, it will be obvious to you once you pick the thing up and look at it yourself. It is not complicated at all to use. I bought several quick releases to make mounting and unmounting the camera easier, so I don't have to screw the camera on every time I want to use it. But I would buy quick releases no matter which ball head I used, just because they are so much faster than screwing and unscrewing the camera onto the mount.Anyway, this is an excellent, solid ball head that does not weigh much, making it perfect for hiking. I weighed mine on my postage scale and it weighs only 78.4 grams, or 2.8 ounces. It can easily support my 3lb camera setup without any drooping in either horizontal or vertical position, and it is rather inexpensive to boot. I don't know what the weight limit would be, but it is definitely well over 3lbs. The product description says it can support 2.2 kg or 4.8 lbs. I believe it should be able to hold that without any problems if not a bit more even, but I have not tested that. The diameter of the base is 1 1/8" or a little less than 29 mm. The bottom to the top of the screw is about 2 3/16" or 55.5 mm. I can't imagine any other ball head this size being much stronger no matter the price, so...

Very sturdy
Once locked it is hard to move out of position. Compared with similar units, it's not a lightweight but that's what makes it so sturdy.

Just what we need!
we have several ball type heads that have 'slots' that limits the adjustment range but this go everywhere, which is great. These are not heavy-duty so don't be surprised if a 200mm zoom on a DSLR is hard to lock down, but for small camera/phone type camera, works for us.

Inexpensive and handy.
I have been using it primarily with a cellphone camera mount. In this light duty application it works well giving flexibility for camera placement. It’s probably sturdy enough for small d-SLR cameras but I have not tested it yet. I would say this is a good bargain.

It's a traaaaaap!
Horrible, dangerous, useless trap, waiting to break whatever gear you attach it to.I got my new mini ball head, opened the package, and it literally fell apart. The 1/4" screw and platform are pressed into the ball via a tapered shaft. The instant some torque gets applied to that shaft, it separates from the ball. If your camera is attached, goodbye. This piece of garbage will break your gear the first time it gets bumped, or maybe the second or third, but eventually it will fail, guaranteed. Avoid. It's not to be trusted for anything, period. Obviously, the shaft needs to screw in to the ball and not be radically prone to falling out. Obviously, you don't press a tapered shaft lightly into a ball and call it good. Horrible, criminally negligent design. Appears deliberately constructed to break something for you. The maker should be sued into oblivion, but good luck with that now that our trade deals have given corporations not only personhood but effective sovereignty. Now we can enjoy fine products of Chinese capitalism like this, which make China lots of money by breaking your gear, thus forcing you to replace it. Does this look inexpensive to you? This could easily be the most expensive piece of gear you ever buy, seriously. Whatever you do, don't actually attach a camera to this thing.Buy American, from trusted sellers. I've bought and had to return so much junk off of Amazon lately that I'm about done. Low prices are not attractive when the quality is even lower. This thing is junk. The ball is super rough. It doesn't lay over 90 degrees in the notch, more like 83... There is nothing right with this and it should not be purchased by anyone, ever. The maker ought to be publicly beaten and humiliated. And Amazon ought to screen out garbage like this, or it will become Ali Express, which really sucks because everything is misrepresented junk.CAVEAT EMPTOR!!!![Got a replacement. It works and has not fallen apart even with a bit of twisting. I'd never trust it with anything more than a super cheap light fixture, but for something like that it might do. I'd pass and save up for something better, won't buy again, not recommended.]

Rock solid and holds my Canon T7i in any position
I purchased this to mount an independent light source (a RALENO Led Video Light) but also tested it with my Canon T7i camera. The Led video light is light and is no real test. The camera is heavier, yet this small ball head held it steady at any angle with no need to overtighten. The threads (male and female) mated perfectly with my tripods, camera and other adapters. In my opinion this is a precision-machined ball head that is heavy-duty and reliable. I have yet to find any flaws or other issues with it after a month of frequent use.

You get what you pay for
This is so god dam tiny and it honestly just come in a tiny tiny box with a ton of tape. Will only work on some tripods keep that in mind. If you have a basic on them it will work anything nicer, newer dont bother this will not work. You get what you pay for keep that in mind.
