Great at first but with serious manufacturing flaw
The fist few nights it was perfect, a game changer in weight and volume. After a few nights I heard loud bangs occasionally, but didn't notice any deflation. After a while I notice a 'pillow' had developed, a large bulge where the internal panels had snapped (causing the bangs I'd heard). This seems to have happened to other people from reading other reviews. Very disappointed for the money spent as it is virtually unusable now.

Ultraleger

Light and compact
After a hiatus that lasted well over a decade, I decided to get back into backpacking this past summer. I took a couple trips over the summer using an old Therm-a-Rest mattress I bought probably 20 years ago or so. Unfortunately it wouldn’t hold the air in, a leak somewhere obviously, and by the time I woke up in the morning it would be flat again. I couldn’t locate the leak so I determined it needed to be replaced. But it had served me well for many years and miles, so going back to Therm-a-Rest for a replacement was a no brainer.I’d always been a stickler for counting ounces in the backpack so I wanted something light and compact. The NeoAir Uberlight delivers on both fronts. I was surprised at how small the box it came in was. I unrolled it and blew it up by mouth (I’m really kind of puzzled by the pump sack concept — extra bulk and weight when blowing directly into the mattress is just as easy) which took about a minute. It’s comfortable to lie on and if you prefer a softer mattress you can just let a little air out using the wing valve. I should also note it includes a repair kit should a leak occur due to puncture.I bought it for fair weather use given its relatively low R value, but I don’t have any plans for cold season camping at this point so it will see use next summer at the earliest. I will return to this review to update after some field use. For now my initial impressions are positive and I’m happy with the purchase.UPDATE 8/03/21: I finally had the opportunity to use this mattress on a seven day a solo hike of the West Coast Trail last month, and I have to say I’m exceptionally pleased with its performance. It takes up remarkably little room in the pack and is super easy to inflate by mouth (I leave the pump sack at home — more trouble than it’s worth). I found it very comfortable for both back and side sleep. I’ve seen some negative reviewers elsewhere on the web complain about how the mattress is slippery and noisy. I was just using a basic Western Mountaineering +1C Flylite bag (no other blankets or materials between me and the mattress) and didn’t find myself slipping off the thing during the night. As to the noise, the material does I suppose make it noisy relative to other makes and models. But it didn’t bother me personally and it certainly didn’t annoy me during the night as I shifted positions. For those looking to cut weight and bulk from their pack, this mattress offers the ability to do both. Very happy with this product and would recommend.* Helpful votes always appreciated *
