Rust bullet is pretty darn effective corrosion preventative. I applied just a single coat and it has repelled rust for several years of salty, slushy winters impressively. This was without regular car washing as well. The product is pretty easy to apply though it does drip and will make your brush (if you’re using one) all kinds of sticky. The biggest problem is that the paint will readily chip and get scratched off from road debris and other sources of abrasion or damage and a single coat leaves room from potential salt/moisture to infiltrate its way to any bare metal. As it stands, the front cross member looks immaculate while the control arms and some fasteners only have a surface rust forming, which can be easily filed/sanded away and a new coat(s) applied. If you were to mix this with an oil (e.g. Fluid Film, WD-40 Corrosion Prevention) and more frequent washings, I would image you could protect your vehicle for life. I recommend this product though I think it is one of the more expensive options per ounce.

I have used this product several times on different projects and I have had great success with it. One project was a rusty old vehicle, I cleaned and prepped the area and then painted it with Rust Bullet and 10 + years later no rust has returned. I would definitely recommend Rust Bullet.

Works great so far

I'm doing a frame-off restoration on a 1980 Jeep CJ7. My best friend (who gave me the Jeep!) recommended Rust Bullet, so I gave it a shot. I am impressed! Flows well, levels itself out pretty well, and dries pretty much like plate armor. I'll be applying this to the body, too, before I do any other coatings.

Appears to be very rust resistant but time will tell. I brushed it on and in this manner it is not smooth. You can easily sand it though. Wet sanding works fine and will smooth it out but I sanded it for a top coat of bed liner. Doing this it worked fine but I have used POR ( paint over rust) an auto specialty product and it works better for brush but this product looks like it would better for spray on but again only if appearance is important.

Ive been in search for a good rust stopping product weighing my options on what's the best product to use for my GTO restoration project. A few experienced auto restoration folks mentioned Rust Bullet. I purchased a quart of the automotive rust bullet to begin testing this product. It's early on, let me share my experience so far. The product sprayed on well using my 2.5mm tip HVLP gun. I applied the recommended 2 coats and it sunk right into the rust leaving a solid paintable surface. Dry time in 65 degrees was acceptable. It will stick well to preped bare metal surfaces. This product is not an encapsulater that rides on top of rust and eventually will flake off. it settles into the rust and locks it down into the metal. I'm quite pleased so far. Some notes: wear gloves, as this is really difficult to get off skin. It emits a strong odor so wear a respirator. MIX WELL, clean up application equiptment immediately. Seal the can well it will harden in the can in short order if any air gets to it. Poke some holes in the can rim to allow the product to stay off of the cans rim.
