I Really Like Slop!-An Elephant and Piggie Book

Bought a few of these for my nephew's 7th birthday. They were such a huge hit! He loves them so much! He enjoyed reading them to me and thought they were hilarious. The pictures are darling, message is sweet and words are simple. The reading level would be good for maybe 5 - 7 years old or a parent could read to a younger child. The quality of the books is amazing and the length of the story is perfect... not too short but not so long it loses their attention.

I bought two of these "Slop" books for my grandkids. The book is so sweet, funny and to the point. It's always tough to try new foods, but sometimes we need to take a tasting bite to honor our loved ones. Its ok not to like it, but at least we tried. The art work is adorable and the book becomes an easy read for new readers. Just loved it!

I LOVE Piggie and Gerald books and now buy them for myself (uh ... and the grandkids)! As a teacher, I used them with my first graders and even the struggling readers could read these after one time through. It helps kids learn about dialog, reading facial expressions (Mo Willems has the most delightful illustrations!), verbal expression when reading aloud - as well as getting along with friends, caring about them, tolerance of differences, etc. They are as entertaining for the adult who reads them to a child as for the children who love Piggie and Gerald!

My 7 year old daughter loves this book. She reads it often and still get a kick out of it. Its a very simple book. Only one short sentence per page. Its reminds me a little of “green eggs and ham” with a little twist. I’ll probably buy more of these books since this one was such a hit.

I read this to my granddaughter (4) to encourage her to keep reading. The entire series is great for beginning readers.

Mo Willems does a great job addressing children's feelings, relationships and dilemmas from their perspective. (In this case, Piggy's love of slop. Gerald doesn't like the way slop smells or looks. Piggy wants her best friend Gerald to try it. He sees what a special food slop is to Piggy. What will Gerald do? ) These are acknowledged and validated while Gerald and Piggy sort things out and come to a satisfactory solution. Enables discussions on many age appropriate levels. The graphics and/or story appeals to my grandchildren aged 18 months to 5 years. My 11 year old granddaughter enjoys reading them to siblings and cousins. However, our discussions on a more nuanced and insightful level.

My kids love Mo Willems, and this is now a favorite of the Piggie and Elephant books. My oldest started reading these books when he was 4, and still loves the humor at 9 years old. Very simple, but the kids absolutely love it!

My kids love this series and I was happy to get a couple new ones to put into the rotation. This story is cute and has a nice message about trying things you may not like. But it would have been nice if Elephant had at least tried a normal size bite of the slop vs. a drop.... only because I am dealing with a super picky eater at home and selfishly it would have been nice to use Elephant as an example of trying things you may not like! haha!
