The best biography of an almost forgotten Enlightenment thinker and Revolutionary Father
Binger's biography is out of print now, but it is the only intellectual biography of this important, but often overlooked figure. Rush, mercurial though he was in temperament, was the originator of modern mental health care, an abolitionist, for his day a feminist, and extraordinarily important political figure in Revolutionary America. Confident to John Adams, critic of Washington, admirer of Franklin, Rush was one of the most respected minds of his day, in Europe as well as the nascent United States. Norton should reissue this book, with a forward from a top historian.
