BALTHAZAR SERIES 1

Dr. Balthazar is a French coroner. He's haunted by the murder of his wife. Her ghost appears regularly to talk to him. Each program has its own standalone murder case but the underlying and continuous theme is whether or not Balthazar, who considers himself to be a detective as well, can solve the unsolved homicide case involving his wife and a number of other murders that are still being committed with the same ritualistic signatures.Then there's Balthazar's smoldering passion for the police captain, a gorgeous blonde, who works with Balthazar on these cases. Her marriage is falling apart, her husband is unfaithful, so Balthazar's attraction to her is flattering, tempting, etc. A really great show. Of course it is in French with subtitles. Looking forward to the next season!

I've no idea how I came upon this series but thought I'd give it a try. I am so glad I did.First, the lead. Tomer Sisley is very easy to look at...very easy. He also manages to have his shirt off in every episode; one of the many humorous points of the series. He is always eating. He is always a bit miffed that the Chief Inspector never thanks him so he usually mutters "Merci, Balthazar." to himself. All the characters are wonderful; from the Chief Inspector, her second, and Balthazar's two assistants.Balthazar sees the dead. Not just the spirits of those on his table in the morgue, but that of his murdered fiancee, which is the running theme through the show as we learn they thought they had arrested her killer, but we find they did not. The series does get darker as it goes on.Yes, some of the plots are a bit thin and improbably. Yes, they are a showcase for Sisley, but that didn't bother. This is an eminently streamable series; I'll admit I've watched the entire thing (both seasons) twice.There are currently two seasons available, but it appears there will be a third season, thankfully.

Balthazar is a doctor that handles the medical forensics for 2 detectives. He hears dead people. It's a little comedic series and is entertaining. Worth seeing.

I found this by accident on Acorn via Amazon Prime. A French coroner, who thinks he's God's gift to women, (but its a cover for a devastated heart) who carries on conversations with his dead patients and is a genius at finding out what and who killed them. He is matched with a "professional by-the-book French female cop" who doesn't like him at first, but he grows on her. The show is all in French, so you will have to deal with English subtitles--and a lot of nudity, as they have real people striped down on the coroner's table. The writing of the show is excellent. I bought Season One and was delighted that Season Two turned up as well. It is an often funny, sometimes very sad, but very interesting cop show. I am so glad I took a chance on it.

I am French and was surprised to discover this série on amazon US. I really loved the character, Balthazar is an unusual and funny doctor who helps the police to find what’s wrong with those dead bodies. Suicide? No, murder.He has a past and wants to know who really killed his wife several years ago but realizes he is slowly falling in love with the cute policewoman.I can’t wait to get season 2, hoping they made one.I highly recommend this “Balthazar”, watch it in French to improve your knowledge of my language or in English.

Loved this first series, so much, I ordered series 2 and 3!

This is a French detective series. Balthazar is the coroner. I am just starting the series, so I'm not sure how much I will like it.

Glaubwürdige Charakter, einmal nicht ohne überdrehte Typen und Geschichten, den Balthazar - wer hat nicht so einen im bekanntenkreis? Unbedingt sehens- und empfehlenswert.

Great show and very well done - unusual perspective and good story thread throughout the first series - can't wait for the second one - although it is very hard to get when you live in Australia - I guess I will have to wait for a fair while.

Wonderful show, with great scenery, storylines and characters. I would highly recommend this show.
