Cast and after that forged and tempered sculpting, wood carving and a wood working BOWL adze. It combines sharp blade and claw hammer. The whole in the center is for pulling nails. Very useful and well balanced. Very sharp and durable blade. AISI-4150 HRC 50-55 !!! Traditional use of the adze is for removing bark and trimming or shaping timber. Authentic log home builders, as well as traditional shipbuilders, make use of the adze. Artists and sculptors use various sizes of adzes for making totem poles, masks and bowls. Craftspeople who follow age-old customs use adzes for making barrel staves, forming chair seats and making bowls and troughs. Please NOTE! The adze head have conic shape of the eye. The handle is from beech tree and it is made at lathe. It have conic shape also and fits perfectly to the adze eye. The handle is removable because of the easy sharpening of the adze blade as it should be! You will receive the adze removed out of the handle and you should mount it tight. It is a "slip fit" type of handle. The unnecessary part of the handle should be cuted appr half inch from the adze. If you have questions about mounting of the handle - please message me! Check out my items for straight adze and big curve adze! Small review written from one of my customers from Canada Dimensions: Handle - 36 cm. ~ 14 inches Head - 550 Grams (g) - 1.2 Pounds (lbs.) Review: Adze is well made and exactly what my husband asked for - This is a gift for my husband who recently became disabled. The tool was held up, at no fault of the seller, for some time. We contacted the Seller, and he was extremely responsive, and shipped another Adze right away. Regarding the Adze, my husband wanted to learn how to make hand carved spoons and this tool was suggested by a friend. We looked at many different Adze's and he chose this one. He is so pleased with this tool, it is sturdy, and good quality, exactly what was advertised. Review: This tool works great! - I make dough bowls from poplar trees I cut on my land. Although I mostly us power tools to make the bowls, sometimes I need the adz to get down in the bottom. This tool works great and came razor sharp! Thank you for selling such good tools!

If anything, a deal at twice the price, but please don't double the price until I get a couple more.
Delivered 2 weeks ahead of schedule, and not junk. These days that alone is impressive. With my limited experience I would categorize the adze I received as excellent, to nearly perfect. My only criticisms are it could have been sharper, and I would like the handle to be a bit thicker in the grip, it couldn't be much thicker given the slip fit of the head though. The head fits very well, there has been no movement after a fair bit of use. If anything, it gets tighter through use. My next adze will be a bit straighter, and the edge will have a shallower curve. These are not criticisms of this adze, but I think another as described would be nice. If this maker has such an adze, I'll be getting one from him over any other I've seen on Amazon. Delivered 2 weeks ahead of schedule.

Excellent Tool
I have bought other tools from mapsyst and they have been quality and the same is true for this one. This is an excellently made, high quality, well built tool that I expect will last long beyond my use of it. This is a lifetime tool, the kind you buy once and never need to replace, I like that a lot. This is adze is perfect for bowl making and it does its job very well. Very Recommended!

Good product
Came very sharp and as advertised. The handle is very long, which allows you to cut down to a comfortable size. Makes quick work when making bowls

It is an amazing tool. I bought it for a woodworker friend and he was overwhelmed when it arrived from Ivan in Bulgaria. He loves it and I can't wait to see the bowls he carves!!!

Wow
Scary scary sharp right out of the box!!! Sharper than a new xacto blade. If the handle was 2" shorter and more ergomatic it would be perfect. I could fell a tree in no time with far less effort. Wow!

It arrived well packaged yet dull and so I had to spend quite a bit ...
I have a few complaints about the adze after a week of use and I don't suspect it will improve. I have carved two small bread bowls from green wood (one of cherry and one of walnut).. The handle is a 1" dowel with a flared head and is nothing if not utilitarian. It arrived well packaged yet dull and so I had to spend quite a bit of time sharpening it. It seems to hold an edge well so I can only assume it had only a cursory sharpening after forging. My second complaint is that the adze head has a very acute angle relative to the handle. I would guess it's a 45 to 48 degree angle whereas other adzes I've used are less acute. The shape of the head makes it difficult controlling the angle of attack and getting a good lick at the wall of a bowl. My final complaint is that the shape off the adze is more of an "U" vs the gentle slope/flared blade that is illustrated in the item picture.
