Hults BrukBjork Splitting Axe#840591The Hults Bruk Bjork is a larger splitting axe intended for heavier duties such as splitting large logs as well as processing wood for use in a fireplace. This item has an axe head weight of 3.5 Lbs and a handle length of 30 inches. The head is the product of blasted and clear-lacquered ironwork and the curved shaft is made of US-sourced hickory. That handle is treated with linseed oil. The Hults Bruk axe head is hand-forged and made from Swedish axe steel in a foundry that has been in operation since 1697. As part of the hand grinding production process, the steel is struck multiple times thereby increasing its density and resulting in more durability of the axe. The head is constructed in such a way that there is a tempered zone designed to hold a very sharp edge even after many sharpenings. The hickory handle is treated with linseed oil. Each axe comes with a traditional leather protective sheath that is embellished with some unique Swedish decorative elements. The axe is shipped in its own storage box and comes with a detailed users manual.Head Weight: 3.5 IbsTotal weight: 4.67 IbsTotal length: 30 inchIncludes Leather SheathLifetime Warranty

Premium and highly effective outdoor tool!!!
This is an absolutely fantastic piece of equipment. The head design works beautifully for splitting. Weighted and balanced perfectly, you can split waaaaay longer than with a maul. If you are like me and miss your intended target and smash the axe handle into the chopping block, you may want to proactively wrap the axe handle right underneath the head. Leather or some of the commercially available cast type wraps will work fine and stop wood from smashing into wood. Any time the axe head is placed on the target log...wood is moving. Quality and effectiveness is far above that of a typical hardware axe. Wear gloves...this is one sharp axe. HIGHLY recommended for those who choose to split wood manually for exercise, pleasure, or need.

This is as near a perfect tool as I've ever had the pleasure to use
I waited to post this review until I used the ax to split a decent amount of wood, mostly spruce and birch in rounds up to 20 inches. Now that I'm about eight cords into the winter and have just polished off that last of my current load of rounds, the time has come. This is as near a perfect tool as I've ever had the pleasure to use. It's light in the hand compared to any maul, which allows for longer duration of your splitting session. The handle on mine is a truly beautiful piece of hickory, straight and lovingly shaped and finished. The head has some few imperfections, as another reviewer noted, the flat striking face isn't perfectly square, but nothing that has ever affected performance in any way. The hand forged look adds to the charm.I own many means of splitting firewood, including a 27 ton hydraulic log splitter, But this one is by far my favorite.I will note that the ax I've been using is the second one I received. The first one came with the blade mounted at about a 15° twist from the plane of the handle and was not usable. The company in the buybox that got my order, I don't remember who, proved to be unreachable, but Amazon kept their end up, refunded my money without question and sent me a new ax. I'd suggest that if you're unfortunate enough to get a lemon, you return it and have it replaced. It's a joy to use.

Good Splitting Axe
Overall a great axe! Slightly disappointed with split design being off center on one side and some run out in the handle. Most likely an uncontrollable inconsistency from higher production demands but worth every penny.

Great quality great tool
Got this for my husband for Christmas and he absolutely loves it. It's not an everyday use item for us is so I can't speak to its longevity . We just use it when camp and it's exactly all we need for that or for chopping wood for the fireplace on the rare occasion we need to. It's a wonderful tool have and craftsmanship is ummatched. My father was so impressed that i got him a hatchet by them as well.

I love this axe
I love this axe. Took some getting used to with the shorter handle and lighter weight over my 8lb maul, but the way it slices clean through logs is pure pleasure. Totally different than the bombastic maul split, you can almost hear the blade slicing through the fibers the whole way through. I cut through a cord of severely knotted ash in a few days using this and the maul and wedge as needed. Beautiful tool, as good to look at as to use. Not as finely finished as a Gransfors, but if you actually plan on using your axe rather than hang it in the front room, I think it makes more sense to have it start it's life looking more like a tool than artwork. It is certainly going to end up that way in any case. Get one and Say 'No' To Splitters!

Slanted edge, update to come
I received the Bjork splitting axe today and I was very disappointed. I took the ace out of the package and loved it, great feel great heft, decent quality. The head is hand forged for sure and not even. No big deal its a tool I’m going to use. The wedging up top os sub par. Great grain as far as wood/handle but the wooden wedge is sunk in after they cut it at installed the metal expansion wedge. Sides busted out too but it does expand over the eye and I don’t feel it will come off anytime soon. My real issue is the edge/blade is not straight. It is angled as if it was hot in the forging process and got bent. Somehow it got past quality control but in the hand and sighting down the edge you can see the bottom kicks out to the side instead of stating inline with the handle. I have contacted the seller to see how we can fix this issue. I would really enjoy having this ace but in a more usable condition. Also did not come in a Hults Bruk box but a cut up Council Tool axe box... interesting... Will update after replacement comes in. Will add pictures when I can.

Twisted Head is on purpose
Lots of people complaining about the twisted head on here. The twist is there on purpose. Many of the high-end splitting wedges have twists in them to make splitting easier. The head of this axe is the same. If you look down the handle toward the splitting head, you'll notice the head is twisted and I don't think that's a flaw. I've only ever used mauls to split and this is my first splitting axe. Very surprised how effective it is for logs 12" or less. Will work on big logs too. It's a pleasure to swing

Bought in May broke by January:(
Chopped 5 cords of live oak and mesquite. Head came off. Wish I could get a refund. Not worth the money.
