Lovely set of themed coloured pencils. Nice range colours to be used in addition to a more complete set. Good quality pencils for amateur artist or hobbyist. Smooth, not scratchy and good coverage. Good price . Looking forward to using them in future pieces of artwork.

Great quality pencils. Lovely to use in soft, vivid colours. I like that the colour names are printed on each pencil, so you can find the correct colour each time and return to it. I would definitely buy these again.

Let’s get the negative out of the way. Whether the colours in this set are ‘perfect for portraits’ as claimed is highly debatable. As you can see from my colour swatch chart, there are some alarmingly bright shades in there. No green either, I hate portrait sets that don’t include an olive green, not only for eyes, but many skin tones have green undertones. I could have layered to make a green (for the eyes) on more textured paper but this was an ordinary journal & didn’t have enough tooth. So I found the colour selection frustrating as the pencils themselves are lovely. They’re soft and blend and layer well (given a paper with a slight grain). I’m not sure about lightfastness, I’d have to do a little more research before I used them for any kind of commission or work that I may display myself. And you can use the softest of touch to get a very light layer which, given the brightness of the colours supplied, is just as well. Having said that, I loved the Davys Grey for building the shape of the face. From there, I just added a smattering of colour to suggest skin tones & shade. I’m going to re-do this portrait on heavyweight cartridge paper or watercolour paper & probably default back to my Polychromos & Luminence for the range of shades, perhaps with a watercolour pencil underpainting as I only have this one portrait set of the Castle Art pencils and I find the colour selection restrictive. I would highly recommend these pencils for anyone looking for budget pencils that behave like more professional pencils - they have the softness, blendability and layering capacity needed to work as you would with any of the more expensive lines on the right paper. I’d perhaps not rely too much on their colour selections though & perhaps recommend getting the largest set you can afford so you can make your own selection.

These pencils are really good. The colours are strong and coverage perfect. Granddaughter is delighted with them so I will buy more sets in future.

I was gifted a lovely colouring book so needed some appropriate colours to do it justice. Have to say these exceeded my expectations and are excellent. Soft and able to be blended they can be used to produce some lovely work. They also sharpen easily to a fine point if needed. Not had any issues with breakages and all in all I’m very pleased. These are great value and I won’t hesitate to buy more of these when I need them.

I have heard so many good things about this brand so I was very excited to get this set (the seascape set) for a reduced price. I love that the 24 pencils come in a tin with the colours displayed in the lid. However I am extremely disappointed with the way these work. Realistically there is nothing 'wrong' with the pencils. They are rounded and solid so have a good grip. The colour that comes out onto paper is strong and vivid. But to me they aren't a soft flowing pencil. I've coloured in two separate images from different colouring books and I've felt like I've had to work hard to get the effects I've ended up with. I am surprised because so many people recommend this brand and I have found other basic brands to be more enjoyable to colour in with. I don't know the technical terms as I've only been adult colouring in recent months, but with these pencils even when sharp there is alot of white paper not coloured in. For me the pencils themselves are sadly a ⭐⭐. But as I do like the tin and the way they are presented my overall rating for this product is a ⭐⭐⭐.
