Would these brushes be good for painting Palm trees

I bought these to paint smooth surfaces on ceramic bowls. I can only say they did not work well on smooth surfaces, using acrylic paint never saw the definition that I thought I would see will the rake type brush.

Is this a stiff brush

On a scale of 1-10, I would rate it a 3 for stiffness. I use them for palm tree fronts, and they work quite well.
