Brujería
I just got this in and I love this book. It has enlightened me on this part of the Hispanic community. I will be using some of the information in a magic act.

True appropriation
Real Mexican Brujeria is not a “healing” art at all. It’s Magia negra, weaponized magic. This book is wrong and erases the real culture before you even open the book. This book SHOULD be called Curanderismo. If she actually respected the culture enough to get to know it, she’d realize that this is a book about white washed curanderismo and there is no brujeria in it. Not one ounce. She’s profiting off of a culture she knows nothing about, and is not even a part of. That’s what makes this so disrespectful.

Resourceful information, if you were guided to this purchase somehow I wouldn’t ignore it, follow your intuition. I did and I love the book!

It’s a decent read
I think this book is a decent read but it’s more like Mexican brujeria Lite ™. You’ll want to look for books written by actual Mexican authors if you want something more in-depth, authentic, and mentions the real gritty topics such as salaciones or amarres. What made me question the credibility of the book was the whole chapter about chakras. The concept of chakras was nonexistent in the books I’ve read by Mexican authors and it’s also not a part of my own Cuban/Colombian practices. Why is a Hindu concept being brought up in a book about indigenous Mexican practices? This chapter came up in the beginning; I rolled my eyes and was expecting some new age-y, “love and light”, threefold path stuff for the rest of the book.

Good book
Why are all the white people on here crying about cultural appropriation? Go virtue signal elsewhere with your ignorance. Modern Brujeria is a eclectic and syncretic practice. It is a mixture of Catholic hoodooesqe folk Magick. It is not really based on any real mexica or Mayan or indigenous practices...At all. So coming from a mexica meaning a descendent of those real aboriginal natives not nationality that you white gringoes call Mexico you can take your cultural appropriation and shove it up your collective culos. All cultures since time immemorial have exchanged, borrowed, taken ideas and practices from other lands and cultures that is life. That is how stasis is repelled. Go jump on some other fads to feel like you are a good person...to me and to someone who obviously respects her Brujeria practice. She is being who she is...or are only Christians white? Are only Muslims Arabian? No...so why can't a white lady be a witch or bruja?

Positive Ways to Lighten Your Life
A very inclusive look at Brujeria. Covers modern forms and touches on older views also. Using this book and the authors advice you can help yourself to cleansing and other basic works. The modern form which the author uses has Santa Muerta involved. There are also folk saints as well as the Trinity and the Blessed Mother. All in all an excellent primer with loads of information and works you can try. I dont think anything can take the place of an experienced older teacher but this book does a more than average job in givng folks a way to make their lives better and more positive.
