This tray is a permanent tray replacement (for Scoopfree dispolable cardboard cartridges), that you fill with your own crystal litter. This tray is compatible with Just the Crystals litter as well as with Scoopfree and Scoopmaid self-cleaning litter boxes. Saves $$: This tray pays for itself in just a few months use compared to purchasing pre-filled cartridges. Eco-friendly: No disposing of those large cardboard trays, just the crystal litter which breaks down into sand over time. The kit includes the "Nose Guard", which is a plastic strip that attaches to the magnets under the litter box's lid, for improved odor control. Also included is a special cleaning tool, that is precision cut to match the contours of the tray, allowing you to remove wet crystals easily, completely, and in a more sanitary way. The LitterWorks Tray is easier to clean than other permanent tray replacements because it does not have any sharp corners which can be difficult to clean. It is constructed of high-impact ABS, a plastic commonly in applications where maximum durability is required. This tray can be modified for future upgrade to the Litter-Bagger high capacity litter disposal system for Scoopfree boxes, also available here on by LitterWorks.

Better than buying new trays, but not the best product.
If you're looking at this product, you're probably comparing this and Forever Litter Tray. Forever Litter Tray® -- Original Best Selling Permanent Scoopfree® Compatible Litter Tray. The Greener and More Economical Alternative to Disposable Cardboard Cartridges I've tried both. I had the Forever Litter Tray from 2013-2015, then I lost it in a move. Recently, I decided to get another permanent tray and tried this one. I wouldn't recommend it. The Forever Tray is able to hold more in the end of the tray before getting full. I like the rounded end of this tray for cleaning, but it seems like holds about half as much before it starts overflowing back into what should be the clean litter. I feel like I'm purchasing new litter about twice as much as a result.

I like to put baking soda on the bottom before putting ...
Been using this product for years. I like to put baking soda on the bottom before putting litter in because it prevents urine staining of the box.. just as a tip. Not too much or it will just gum up the rake.

Great Buy!!
LOVE IT! I have the ScoopFree automatic litter box. The disposable trays were over priced and crap. I scoop out my two cats waste so that I don't have to dump all the litter if the waste trap is full. With the disposable trays the flap with the metal the magnets on the purple cover stick to connected to the cardboard disposable tray so I'd have to lift the whole litter box up to scoop!! This tray all I have to do is left up the purple cover and I'm good to go. The little flap connects to the magnets on the purple cover easily and better than the disposable trays that would constantly fall off the magnets. I'm so happy with this purchase!! The tray is easy to clean and I've had no issues with scratching on the tray.

Sturdy enough
It's a little thin but seems to be adequate for the job. I like the plastic shield that conceals the waste; much better than the arrangement used in the disposable trays. This improves the integrity, cost of operation and cleanliness of the automated litter box. No chance of leaks and that's a big deal for me.

This permanent tray more cost effective then disposable
I was spending a lot of money on buying the 3 packs of the disposable trays. This permanent one is far more cost effective. It is a bit harder to clean because you have to clean it in the first place instead of just throwing the tray away, but that is expected. It fits inside a regular garbage back and you can simply empty the tray in the bag, clean it, then fill it with litter.

Magnetic guard comes off a lot
The magnetic plastic strip that came with the tray as a gaurd does not stay on. It's been bumped off twice now, once getting stuck with the rake and causing a loud commotion. My cat already has anxiety and after that, it's taken me a week just to get him to use the litterbox again without me sitting with him. Also, description mentions a tool to help clean/scrape the tray of litter - no such item was included.

nice idea too bad it doesnt work
the used litter sticks to the surface of this item and has to be scraped off. my cats did not like this reuseable litter tray and began pooping out side the litter box. they never did that before i got this litter tray. the disposable trays are expensive but they contain the smell better and my cats dont protesti would rather pay the extra than have to clean up cat poop.

Not soak through like cardboard trays
I have an older kitty cat who urinates several times a day.The cardboard litter tray needed to be replaced in a week and soaked through the "waterproof membrane" that was coated on the tray. I lined my new tray with Press n' Seal Wrap for easy cleanup. And use less litter crystals that I can change weekly. I also am using a small fan to help evaporate liquids.
