Does not taste like your typical Sassparilla
This tea is good quality tea, comes in a nice package and quick on time delivery. It's just not the tea flavor for me that is why I give it 4 stars. I am sure this is how it should taste and again is a high quality tea.I was fooled by a few of the reviews about the flavor and should have read more. I forget that Sarsaparilla does not taste like rootbeer and true sarsaparilla has a smokey flavor. It does not resemble the sasparilla taste you might be expecting. This is where some of the reviews confused me. I saw people said it tasted like rootbeer. If you like taste similar to paprika and a smokey flavor with a hint of garlic and licorice/vanilla you will appreciate the true taste of indian sarsparilla. It reminded me more of a barbecue rub. It tastes very medicinal and I am sure it s medicinally beneficial. I have no doubt it must have some really healthy properties and I will drink this mixed in with other teas. I will be buying more from this company as I am impressed with quality. I can tell just by the color and taste this is a tea that is very rich and potent, not in the least bit watery. That is how teas should be.

Initially a bad smell, which mostly evaporated in a few weeks. But still different from the usual.
When received, it had a strong unpleasant chemical/medicinal taste and smell. A pungent, vaguely garlicky smell, and Indian sarsaparilla normally has a mild vanilla-ish flavor. I've used Indian sarsaparilla in tea for 15 years or so, from about 4 different companies, and I'd never had any that tasted like this. However, whatever causes that smell is volatile. It had a much milder smell in about a month, though it was still not like the usual Indian sarsaparilla and somewhat unpleasant.I contacted the seller, who told me someone else had also complained about a bad smell in that lot. Also, many of the reviews in 2023 mention a strange or unpleasant smell. So I sent them most of what I'd bought, so they could smell it themselves. They said it smelled fine to them!So maybe it's a smell only some people perceive. There are genetic variations in people's sense of smell (for example, beets taste like dirt to some).Or maybe the smell evaporated quickly when it was transported across the country in the heat.I don't find anything online about Indian sarsaparilla tasting strange or different when it's freshly dried, though.Months later, there's still an off taste to it.
