I was pleasantly surprised to find that this item is larger than expected. The storage compartment will hold quite a few matches (or whatever you'd like). The compass works just "okay" though, as you seem to have to hold it perfectly level in order to get it to move. The body seems to be well made and sturdy. It's advertised as having a flint, but to my disappointment there is no striker, so am unsure of the point of having a flint with no striker? The signal mirror is small, which I expected, as it is located on the underside of the inside body under the compass. The lanyard is long and appears to be pretty strong. The whistle itself is loud and seems well made too.I took off one star for not having a striker and the compass not being as usable as I expected. Overall though, I think this was a good price for this item ($2.22, 12-12-12).

It is a whistle, I am not sure what else I can say about it. Everything seems to work exactly how it is suppose to.Edit: Seller Summer.Rain is not trustworthy. I ordered 2 of these from seller and only received 1. Seller refused to respond to any correspondences about item and had to file a claim and get my money back.

i bought several of these, as my daughters go camping and hiking and i wanted them to have something to use in an emergency so they could have one and their kids could have one .. so far, thank goodness, only my grand-daughter had to use the whistle once when she was crossing a stream and got stuck on a rock in the middle .. the whistle did its purpose and my daughters heard and ran to her rescue .. i am more than happy with this purchase .. even if the compass doesn't work perfectly, the whistle and waterproof container are perfect for the price ..received fast (and free) shipping (from hong kong) so what's the problem with the other reviews ..? are they looking for gold and diamond encrusted items for this price .. ? give it a rest ..

I must compliment the seller on the fast shipping and good pkging. BUT, this is about the product. I'd heard about the pea sticking in the whistle, and...they were right. You can't blow it at all without the over sized plastic pea sticking and making the inital weak whistling come to a complete stop. I wouldn't rely on the whistle at all in a survival situation!! That's why I carry at least 2 of the tiny fox howlers with me.I was surpriced to find the compass actually worked! Not pin point accurate of course, but it would get you in the general area you were aiming for. Has a rubber o-ring seal around the storage compartment lid. I tested it with some paper inside, it didn't leak in the short time I held it underwater. So I would think it's pretty water resistant, not sure if it's water proof for long periods of underwater submerging however.The cordage is cheap nylon and literally pulls apart if you try to tie a knot...I replaced it. The plastic will probably crack if you drop it. It's that hard plastic which is easy to break, not like the softer plastic on Coleman's match containers. If you do drop it, it's orange and you'll be able to find it. The tiny flint on the side isn't worth trying to strike...you'll tear up the plastic container.The signal mirror inside the lid is good enough to look at an eye if you have something in it, but as a SIGNAL mirror...way too small!I did like the large compartment area. I measured out a 2 1/2" x 15" long piece of white paper, arranged my 4 small fish hooks, 2 leaders, 3 small eye-screws swivels, 12' of fishing line, 3 split shot sinkers and couple plastic lures on it. Covered it with same amount of clear packing tape, then rolled it up into a tube and slipped it inside the compartment. I even had room in the center of the rolled up tube, to place some power bait pellets, extra line and a small foam bobber.I bought it with the full intent of making it into a tiny emergency back up fishing kit to toss into my backpack or glove compartment of my car. It works for that purpose quite well. I intend on making one for each of my 3 grandsons. Don't buy this for a survival kit and don't count on it as such!

These are great, inexpensive match holders that happen to have a few extras. The whistle is a useful feature. The compass is nearly useless, but it might be a little helpful in a pinch. Bought a bunch of these for my kids and as gifts for neices and nephews.

This is easy to find and since the scouters use these our scouts just have to ha e the same.

Es útil y practico pero los accesorios como la parte con la que enciendes los cerillos, el espejo y la brújula se caen por lo que debes pegarlos regularmente y tener cuidado por que si no los puedes perder.

La brújula realmente es un juguete, solo da una orientación básica como cualquier brújula de burbuja. El contenedor es impermeable y le caben cerillos de emergencia. El silbato funciona bien, ideal para educar en campismo

Lo compré como prueba y la verdad comprobé que es un juguete enorme y estorboso. Buen regalo para niños, pero para nada es una herramienta.
