It has traditionally been used to kill germs. It is now mainly used to flavor foods drinks and toiletries. Lemongrass essential oil has a warm lemon, grassy smell and is soothing, invigorating antiseptic, antibacterial, and deodorizing. In aromatherapy Lemongrass essential oil is most useful for athlete's foot and as an insect repellent. USE: Massage, baths, inhalation, poultice, compress. Diluted well and massaged directly onto skin, armpits, feet, and hands, it will boost the circulation and deodorize. Apply Lemongrass essential oil directly to curtain hems to repel insects, and to shoes or rubbish bins to deodorize. A few drops in a hand or footbath will warm the extremities and reduce sweating. CAUTION: Lemongrass essential oil is perfectly safe for home use as long as it is well diluted.
