An acceptable CogAT Practice Test, but not the best
We purchased three CogAT Practice Tests (Form 7, Level 5/6).This Practice Test was okay, but it was definitely not the best. (The best I found was the one by Testingmom.com). The graphics weren’t the greatest which made some of the questions more difficult then necessary, especially in the ‘Number Puzzles’ and ‘Number Series’ subsections. Here are the three CogAT Practice Tests we purchased, from best to worst (in my opinion):1. CogAT Test Prep Workbook – Kindergarten (Level 5/6) – Full Length Practice Test https://www.amazon.com/dp/0999158309?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf2. Practice Test for the COGAT Form 7 Kindergarten Level 5/6: Gifted and Talented Test Prep for Kindergarten, CogAT Kindergarten Practice Test; CogAT ... Workbook for Children in Kindergarten, GATE https://www.amazon.com/dp/0997768037?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf3. Practice Test 1 for the CogAT - Form 7 - KINDERGARTEN (Level 5/6): CogAT - Grade K (Practice Test for the CogAT - Form 7 - Grade K) https://www.amazon.com/dp/1939777135?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

Excellent, balanced, solid logic explained
The answer key in the back explains what characteristic to identify for the analogies. Every question is explained. I've never seen another CogAT that does that. It is true that the printing is black and white, both gifted and average kids will know the colors of common objects so I don't think it is limiting for the book. There is only one question using color grouping characteristic for one analogy (a picture of an orange which has the pitted skin and stem bulge of a classic naval orange), a picture of a carrot and then two more items to finish the analogy question. I thought the questions were well thought and it was an excellent book. I bought the Grade 1 level version right away.

It is what it says it is, but the stupid clip art pictures are so terrible in this I would think it is very confusing for kids (ex. a super cartoon-y cow and then an almost picture quality horse... it throws me off on what they're getting at, and I'm not the kindergartener!) I hope the real test isn't this bad...

I think the book was perfect and very appropriate for what I expected
I think the book was perfect and very appropriate for what I expected. I read most of the reviews before buying it, and I think the graphics were fine, and it all made sense. I did find some questions to be a little confusing in that there could easily be 2 possible answers, but otherwise it helped my daughter understand the concept and how the test would be administered.

Excellent review material for my kindergartner
I got this book for my kindergartner (age 6) to review the test format and subject content. She loved the exercises in the book considering it was the first time that she was introduced to this kind of material. She was able to independently work on the questions with little bit of help/guidance on reading a few of the questions. It kept her interested and engaged enough to complete couple of sections at one time. The book was priced lower than from other publishers from whom we have bought similar books for our older child. We couldn't be happier with this purchase.

Great for basics of testing
We bought this for our kindergartener. Mostly to get her familiar with the concept and the layout. She learned how to fill in the bubbles - which was useful at test time. Also, it gave us the opportunity to see what she knows - it was fun to see what seemed easy - and what was challenging.

This book is terrible! Some of the questions concern color relationships
This book is terrible! Some of the questions concern color relationships, which are impossible to determine since the book is a cheap black-and-white version (of pirated clip art). Some questions are awkwardly phrased. It includes a section on teacher-posed questions (which was eliminated in the actual Form 7 of the exam). Skip this book and get the Expanding Minds Learning, LLC one instead.

This book is terrible compared to others I have purchased
This book is terrible compared to others I have purchased. The pictures are blurry, black and white, and look like they were pulled from many free clip art sites. Many questions were confusing and I had to sit down with my daughter to explain things that should have been clear in other books. For instance, one question asks what cheese is made from... the answer is milk. The next question shows a picture of a cow and you're supposed to choose what it makes. The answer choices are milk, cheese, and eggs. Obviously milk is correct but my daughter said, "I thought cheese was made from milk... so don't cows make cheese too?" Ugh. Did they not watch a kid take this test before they released it?The Bright Kids NYC are more expensive but far superior. The pictures are good. The questions are well thought out and don't need a lot of explanation. http://www.amazon.com/CogAT-Form-Practice-Test-First/dp/1935858459/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1422730140&sr=8-6&keywords=bright+kids+nyc+cogat+level+7
