It Works!
Don't let the title fool you; this isn't some fad aimed to sell a lot of books. It works! The philosophy is very simple: We get out of balance as our hormones change, so we need to help our bodies get back in balance.I have never had a problem with weight, and have always exercised. So when I found myself with 5 extra mid-section pounds I couldn't get off (early perimenopause) I started researching. I can't say that is was the DHEA or the progesterone cream that did it, but those pounds were gone in 6 weeks, and monthly bloating is way, way down. I was traveling a lot during that time so didn't take the supplements regularly. But I did totally eliminate simple carbs: sugar and refined flours and fried food. Eat whole grains, protein, veggies, and go easy on fruits. It's as simple as that.

FROM FAT BELLY FAT TO BELLY FLAT
A very interesting instant guide to why you cant budge those bulges and spare tyres, something I've been unsuccessful at for a long time now in spite living on a minimalist diet and trying to eat as much of the recommended healthy foods. The idea that the cause could be hormonal attracted me instantly to this book and was placed high on my "must read list".Entirely scientifically and medically plausible explanations of why your fat won't budge without the laborious explanations and tasks of calculating calories, Body Mass Index (BMI) and worrying about doing the mandatory daily grind of grunt and sweat impressed me from the moment I started reading the first chapter. The guide to the correct foods to eat to correct the real cause for being overweight and fat is clear and concise. You don't have to be a scientist or medically trained to appreciate the subject matter of this book but a scientific minded person will immediately appreciate the rationale behind this fat busting program.

Worth reading
This book is a quick read and easy to understand. The Doctor gives you a way to help yourself via saliva tests and non-pharmaceutical remedies. I recommend this book.I have been using the cream for almost a week -- the first few days, I felt some uncomfortable side effects of nausea and migraines but I reduced the amount of cream I use (1/2 tsp) and by the end of 5 days the side effects were much reduced and I feel my body is adjusting well. you can google the side effects of progesterone creams so you can be informed. In just 2-3 days I noticed the intensity of my hot flashes was cut in half which is such a relief!!!This book has also inspired me to seek out a holistic minded ob/gyn in my area and it has made me realize that my treatment can be gentle and custom tailored to me. For that, I thank the good Doctor Randolph. The cost of the saliva test is $150, projesterone cream $40 and the phone consult is $100. I have had the phone consultation and I would say you can skip that (very superficial) and spend your money visiting your doctor instead. The nurse on the phone consultation only recommended 2 supplements for me, contrary to what other reviewers have suggested.

Great information, need a little more guidance as to how to proceed to solution
Although this is a very interesting book, I believe that as a Doctor, he should give a more definitive explanation as to how to find out specifically how to treat "Estrogen Dominance". I believe he is right on about a lot of women having this exact problem and I feel like I am probably one of them. However, my Gyn doctor is very traditional and I don't even know if he will work with me on trying to find out if this is my problem. It would be helpful if a list of holistic doctors around the country were listed or even if he gave more direction as to what to look for in a doctor. I think the average person needs more direction than is offered in this book to help get diagnosed and treated. You shouldn't have to simply order the products that he provides and trust that you are indeed estrogen dominant.Overall this book has some great information, great recipes, and great advice as to how to live a healthy long life. I would recommend it to any peri-menopausal or menopausal woman to read and follow.

Life changing information
It's so good to get a book that explains why people get belly fat as they get older and I wish I had read this book when I was in my 30's! There is a solution to this problem! I would recommend this book for anyone who has started getting the stubbord belly fat or who wants to know how to avoid it. The information given in this book is right on! I had already been doing many of the necessary things listed but have incorporated a few other key things that I did not know and I've already seen a difference in only 2 weeks. A very informative and educational must-read book!

Hard to read tables in Kindle version
Beware the Kindle edition unless you can read teensy print. The tables cannot be enlarged enough for me to see. Yes, I can pull them up on my PC but that defeats the purpose of buying it on the Kindle. As for the diet, it is very similar to what I am doing anyway but something changed last year and I gained 15 pounds - all of it on my belly - and cannot get it off. I'm going to see Dr. Randolf this coming week and give his hormone balancing a try. My primary care provider had me on compounded natural Estriol and progesterone for 15 years. At first, the amount was so high that my breasts grew from a C+ to DD in four years (I don't recommend that as a way to enlarge your breasts because I also got suspicious looking cysts that required a biopsy, stretch marks and they are heavy and droopy. My doc prescribed estrogen and progesterone because I had severe insomnia and some hot flashes. I still have insomnia and hot flashes even with the now-lowered dose. So, time to try something different. Will update in a few weeks. BTW I went off both estrogen and progesterone for a few months when I was traveling and the curl came back to my hair. My hair went straight when I went on the pill in 1968. I did not have any estrogen when I was 11 and I was healthy. Maybe I don't need it now.

disappointing
This book has no table of contents making it impossible to select chapters that are relevant. Much of the book is very generic, nothing new here if you have read John Lee or Christiane Northrup already. A large percentage of the book is just recipes.....some of us already know how to cook! Some of the dietary recommendations are strange. It would push someone into quite a carbohydrate intake if they followed his recommendations. That is not going to work for someone who is insulin resistant at all. Also, the book repeats the outdated dogma of anti-saturated fat discourse. Also recommending a lot of diary to someone with estrogen dominance is a bit weird....even organic pastured dairy is high in the naturally occurring hormones the cow produces when she is lactating, particularly estrogen. There are no footnotes, so all the claims beginning with "studies have shown" have to be taken with a grain of salt.

Much more than just another diet book!
This recently published book is really something original, a well-written book (by an American medical doctor too, a husband and wife team), easy to read, and to-the-point. Despite the title, I believe that this book is for just about everyone who cares about maintaining good health, even especially those already in good shape would benefit from reading it. In my opinion, the book's title somewhat understates its message: It is not just about losing belly fat (whether or not you have this in mind), but also about avoiding and/or correcting an extensive - and all too common - range of other health problems, many of which are rather more serious or distressing than extra pounds round the waist (see the long list of these on page 15 of chapter two of this book).Dr Randolph's main point in this book is that restoring - and maintaining - a good healthy body - and shape - is not about following some fixed diet and counting calories every day, as many other foodie/diet books would have you believe. (Indeed, calories barely get a mention in this book!) Rather, it's all about making those food choices that allow the body to restore its own natural balance. This is well-explained by many examples, and these should strike a chord with most readers. In particular, the section on the non-negotiable foodstuffs (beginning of chapter three) justifies the cost of the book in itself, in my opinion.Highly recommended - and not at all an expensive buy (on Amazon). I also suggest that you could easily make the dietary changes suggested in this book by adding a smoothie maker to your kitchen accessories - don't laugh at the idea, check out the other reviews (including mine) on Amazon about these, something like the Kenwood SB056 Smoothie 2GO Black] ]Kenwood Smoothie Maker or similar, would do just fine! {Footnote: Make sure you buy this - the May 2009 edition - as you see in the picture. There is - I see - an earlier (July 2008) edition of this book, which has a different sub-title and cover. This will not be a problem if you order direct from Amazon}. I can't say whether it works or not as I'm not applying all the rules rigidly but it's been great trying the recipes
I am very receptive to the theory behind this book. I can't say whether it works or not as I'm not applying all the rules rigidly but it's been great trying the recipes, which are delicious, and if nothing else have refreshed my weekly menus. Also it's been a revelation to discover that by eating this way my stomach doesn't necessarily feel so uncomfortable after I've eaten. There are now some of the recipes that have become a regular part of our lives either following a complete meal plan or just using elements - my kids are eating vegetables that they'd have previously turned their noses up at: who knew spinach could be so utterly different if roasted?! Or the delightful revelation that is mashed cauliflower with garlic puree? A delicious substitute for mashed potato. I've only given 4 stars as there is a little too much zeal about the method/approach. I doubt it will work for everyone as we're all different. That said, I've never bought a diet book before and I do like this one - and it's not just about losing weight. Focusing on the fact that we are our hormones (that's men and women - despite it being a woman's body on the front this is applicable to men too, it's just that women will take more notice of the message) is, I think, sound and relevant, and could help a lot of people realise how they can help themselves control their weight or the horrible symptoms of hormone fluctuation if they understood the process within their body rather than resorting to chemical short-cuts that will only make matters worse in the long run.
