NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ATLAS OF THE WORLD, 11TH EDITION

It is very nice to find and locate any place of the world in a single atlas most accurately and precisely than any other world atlases.

Owing to our contested borders, the Govt does not clear many top-of-the-line atlases for sale in India. Further, brick-and-mortar booksellers will have me believe that not as many atlases are getting published anymore because Google Maps and internet in general have killed the market. Therefore, though I would have liked to purchase an atlas published in 2022, I had to settle for the Eleventh Edition of the National Geographic World Atlas published in 2019. This was the only one available on Amazon with one-day delivery. The alternative - The Times Comprehensive World Atlas - 15th edition, though published in Sep 2021 had a wait of almost 15-20 days. I was not sure whether the bookseller was a local one or an international one. If international, it could get stuck in customs and never reach me (as with many items ordered by me in the past). Besides, the borders depicted in the maps therein may be contested further diminishing the chances of the atlas reaching me. I went to the only bookseller in Delhi who carried this title, went through the book and ascertained for myself of its quality. Then I asked him for his best offer. I would have loved to give impetus to a local business. The marked price was ₹15,000 and he offered a discount of max 10% and refused to match the online Amazon price instead playing on my fears that they will sell you an older edition or second hand book online. So I ordered the book online keeping my fingers crossed. I am delighted to report that I received the promised product at two thirds the marked price. And needless to say National Geopraphic lives up to its reputation. Its a great book with wonderful production values albeit with greater emphasis on the maps of the Americas. My 10-yr old loves to pore through maps. It gives me great pleasure to gift him an atlas of a quality worthy of his passion

Realized a childhood dream of possessind this great atlas, after 43 years . Could afford it now, and even the touch made me emotional. 43 yrs back, it was recommended by none other than Rakhee Gulzar.

A very good atlas for enthusiast and learners. Nothing negative,comes with hard protective jacket.

I bought this Atlas going by the brand name and the reviews. It is no doubt a very good atlas but it focuses a lot on US and does not provide the same level of coverage for Asia, Africa and South America hence I returned and bought Times Atlas, Times Atlas is awesome, more maps, more coverage of the world (including Asia, Africa and South America). Also the quality of paper is better.

When I ordered the National Geographic World Atlas I didn't stop to think about size. It is huge; about 18 inches tall, and at least 11 inches wide. And it's heavy. What I like most about it are: 1. The detail: many small towns that are often not named in some other atlases are shown. 2. The paper is high quality and sturdy. 3. Each country, and states in the USA, are shown on two sheets that face each other and are numbered as one page. 4. It has its own ribbon bookmark which really helps when you have to switch back and forth from the index to a map. 5. The vast amount it contains about the land masses and the open seas, the planet itself, and the space around us is incredible. 6. The table of contents itself shows the thoroughness given to each aspect of our world and its inhabitants. 7, And I think the cost is low, considering its high value.

Ero in possesso, da circa una ventina d'anni, dell'ottava edizione del National Geographic Atlas of the World. Tempo quindi di aggiornarmi: nuovi stati sono nati, ed altre modifiche sono avvenute. Ho quindi acquistato la recente undicesima edizione. Acquisto errato. Limitandomi alle regioni del mondo che più mi interessano ultimamente, l'Australia e l'Oceania, noto quanto segue. La cartina dell'Oceania, per quanto forse più facilmente leggibile, manca di una enorme quantità di informazioni che erano invece presenti nell'ottava edizione: per dirne sono alcune, citerò la profondità delle fosse oceaniche, addirittura la direzione e la velocità dei venti. La cartina della Nuova Guinea manca del tutto! Anche la sezione sui fondali oceanici è terribilmente semplificata nell'undicesima edizione. Mi par quindi di dover concludere che le successive edizioni dell'Atlante non si sono succedute in un miglioramento progressivo, bensì in un palese impoverimento rispetto alle edizioni precedenti (in particolare all'ottava, l'unica che io conosca bene). Tutto sommato non mi pare valga la pena. Ho comunque dato tre stelle, perché un Altlante National Geographic è in ogni caso una cosa seria.
