Great Price for flour and great product if you freeze it for 48 hrs.!!!
So I was a bit hesitant to buy this flour after reading several reviews that said they had bugs form after a few weeks in the flour. So I did some research and what I'm about to tell you might shock you. ALL non-chemically treated flour with have bug eggs. It's due to their microscopic size and that grain comes from a plant that is grown outside. I know, a bit gross to think about but that is the world we live in. So what do you do if you want to keep flour more than a week or two. Simple, Freeze it for 48 hours. Freezing flour does a couple of things. One it kills all bug eggs and larvae permanently. (YAY!) Next you can store flour in the freezer to increase it's shelf life up to a year! (yay for bulk buy) Now, some people think just putting the flour in air tight containers is enough but it isn't. Doing that doesn't kill the eggs, so you have to freeze it for 48 hrs BEFORE you put it in air tight containers!!!! $8 hrs. in the freeze is key!!!! I just plopped the bag whole in my standing freezer ( you could transfer flour to ziplock bags if you can't fit the bag into your freezer), leave for 48 hrs then you can use the flour however you want. I did this and my flour is still good (bought it in july is now sept.) and I have bag a sitting in my cupboard right now that has been out for weeks with no bugs at all. However, I do store most of it still in the freezer as it's convenient for me to only have a small portion out at a time but whatever works for you! This flour is nicely milled, has great flour and is dense! A little goes a long way.

I love this Buckwheat flour!
This flour is wonderful and it makes awesome pancakes! Plus the price can't be beat! Buying it in bulk can be intimidating but I bag up the extra (double bag in Ziploc Freezer Bags) and store the unused portion in the freezer so it stays fresh until I am ready to use it.

Wholesome, Perfect.
Update: Well over a year since my purchase- and this flour still performs well! I kept it in the original bag down in a clear trash bag until a month a go, when I moved the remainder to an airtight bin. But amazingly, it still bakes well and is not rancid (as often happens with quality flours). I REALLY like this company!Light, wholesome, perfect. I very much like this flour. I use it typically in conjunction with ap flour and I get a very impressive tender crumb- far superior to anything I got with only using ap flour. And those whom I serve don't get turned off by the heavy, dense, untasty whole wheat products that plague many homes that are trying to eat a bit better. And I like that I know the company. That is great! Also, my home is sometimes warmish (we live on a island) and I have had no problems with this flour "keeping" and not tasting off, stale, or rancid.

I love this flour
I have used Great River Organic Flour for several months now and I am really happy with it. I make all my own bread and with four kids we eat plenty of it! I love that this is organic and GMO free. The quality is great, also when I ran out of this and went back to the other stuff in the grocery store I could really tell the difference in the consistency my bread and other baked goods came out. I would suggest this to anyone looking for a good whole wheat baking flour.*UPDATE: I had changed my order from just standard Whole Wheat Flour to Whole Wheat Pastry Flour not really knowing what a difference it would make. My mistake, and I reviewed the Pastry flour instead of the standard whole wheat flour. THE DIFFERENCE between the two IS HUGE and NOT good. Pastry flour does not a good loaf of bread make. Cookies= awesome, waffles= great, but a nice loaf of yeast bread it will fall to pieces. IF you want it for bread making just buy the standard whole wheat flour, or better yet search out Bread Flour you will be glad you did.

Texture course for making grape nut cereal
This product is clean and pure. Just know that texture is not fine. So when you are baking with this flour its like your eating sand. Flavor is good. I’m going to try to correct this by putting through my blender until more fine next time.Very disappointed as I purchased a large quantity and never expected it to be this course.

Very Pleased
This buckwheat flour is very good quality. I have tried several other organic brands that were far more expensive and this flour is just as good if not better. I make delicious sourdough buckwheat crepes, bread and pancakes. Looking forward to making some buttery buckwheat crackers. My kids love the flavor and it agrees with everyone's belly. The color of the baked goods are dark and rich in color. The dark color makes me feel confident that this grain must have more nutrients. I highly recommend this flour.

Less than 25 pounds & early use by date
The cracked wheat looks like good quality but it’s a bit disappointing that I paid for 25 pounds and I got less than that. And also the best by date is 10 months away which makes me feel like this has been sitting around for quite some time. I had the same thing happen with their rolled oats, less than 25 pounds and a quick use by date. I have ordered their wheat berries and the date was much longer.

Love this flour and is a staple in my freezer
Update: 1/16/23: just received my latest order of whole wheat pastry flour. It has a best if used by date of 4/26/23!That is just unacceptable for a large food item like this.Buyer beware 🧐Follow up to above: I contacted the manufacturer and learned they supply their products upon order, and this situation should not have occurred. They suggested I contact Amazon directly but if my order was not corrected, they would provide assistance directly. Amazon refunded my money in the end and hopefully this won’t happen again.Original review: It’s a big bag, and I use plastic bins to store it (in the freezer) for ease of use. It makes lovely bread which I use two parts of this flour, plus one part of their unbleached white flour. I haven’t bought a store-bought bread since the pandemic began thanks to the giant bags of flour Great River offers, and now we can’t imagine buying store bought bread ever again. Thanks, Great River!!
