Phenomenal understanding of British sea wars and sailors during the early 1800's
I have just "finished" reading the last kindle book of the entire Richard Bolitho series and I can say I felt next to the Horatio Hornblower series, these were the best books I have ever read. Unfortunately I refuse to read Bolitho #23 (Sword of Honour) since I now know how it ends...I refuse to allow myself to read about the newly revealed inevitable conclusion after l have learned so much and been totally enthralled by this fictional character. The entire series has taught me so much about what it must have been like being on a Ship of War during the early 1800's.

Another Excellent Book in the Bolitho Series.
Kent continues to have vivid confrontations between ships at sea and personalities in England, as well as on ship. He has now, in 22 books, presented each character in full light showing fears, hopes, needs, and feelings in a unique manner. Never direct, Kent has an excellent writing ability to maintain reader contact with all aspects of his characters and ventures. I reread many sections to visualize totally what he portrays in his detailed and intriguing, not so detailed manner to keep his readers from putting the book down.

I'm sad
I so wanted Sir Richard to return to England and be with Catherine while serving in the Admiralty. They deserved only the best of life.

It's good but not quite up to P
It's good but not quite up to P. O'brian but what can one do when you have read O'brian all the way through three times. Only serious complaint is ther seems to be some confusion in the sequencing of these books.

Sorry, the story is coming to an end.
The usual great action and plot. Was starting to grow a little weary of "love story" sub-plot, however. Still, a great read.

I feel like the author is getting tired.
Each story is less satisfying. Battles last seconds. We shoot a couple broadsides, we board, done. Whereas in early books it was all battles, not much else, now it's all the other stuff.

Getting to be like an favourite pair of shoes
Have to agree with a few of the other long term readers , we are fiercely loyal , but can see the end is looming.I get the feeling a number of the passages have been cut and paste , the phrases are so familiar. Having said that to a new reader a great read and I must admit to my addiction to the series, nothing better than sitting back with a jamiesons , some nice Chello music and continuing the the story of Sir Richard and "The happy few"
