I have to admit that I was really excited about the Shape Tape from FrogTape. We've done our fair share of decorative painting, and this seemed pure genius. Add the fact that it's FrogTape and I was totally convinced this was the greatest invention ever... The end result is that it does work and it looks good - not great pre-touch-up, but good. It's getting it up and having to do quite a bit of touch ups that keeps me from totally raving about this.The process of applying the tape was by no means simple. First off, there is backing on the tape that needs to be peeled off. It doesn't sound like much, I know. Still, to measure out the tape, get it level, peel the top or bottom half of the backing off, smooth the tape down, try not get it tangled on itself, make sure to keep the long piece of tape in a straight and level line... only to go back and have to remove the other half of the backing... It's not the fastest or easiest task.Also, you have to avoid actually touching the sticky side of the tape, because it quickly loses its grip/stickiness. The peaks/valleys of the shape easily get folded on themselves with the slightest touch, so you can completely lose the shape of the design. It's not at all in keeping with the high standards that "normal" FrogTape has set.We did a square border on one wall, so it might not be a typical problem for just a straight line... but we couldn't keep the corners secured to the wall at all. Where the two lines/borders met, it just kept poking up. Before putting the second color on, we went over the corners with the first color, so if anything seeped through, it would be the same color as the frame/border, but that didn't help at all.If you're not just doing one straight line of the tape, you should also know that it's not so easy to line up the peaks/valleys of the design. There are little white marks along the tape, but they don't actually line up with like sections. There might a mark in the center of a peak/wave, but it doesn't line up with the center of another peak/wave. So it's not as easy as we thought to make a border/frame/stripe that's actually wider than the tape itself.We did use "normal" FrogTape along the edge of the Shape Tape that was not getting a new color of paint, and that helped. Not only did it block a little more area from accidentally getting the wrong color of paint there, but it helped keep the Shape Tape flatter and have less wiggle.Now, it did turn out okay in the end... We had to do thicker touch ups, but it wasn't horrible. It was just such a pain to get up that our quick half-a-Saturday project turned into a full weekend project. And that's before the touch ups, which took a few hours given the shape of the paint lines. It looks good when all is said and done. Just be prepared to but in some serious prep time and have a very steady hand to do the touch ups!

I bought this for an accent wall in my bathroom. I wish I'd been able to do more stripes. I ended up wasting about 9 of the 25 yards of tape that it came with because I applied it crooked. There isn't much tape for errors. It honestly worked better than I thought it would. It was a little difficult to apply straight but not much more so than regular masking tape. Just follow instructions. Slowly peel back the top part of the backing and apply on the wall as you go. When you've got the top half on the wall and you're satisfied with how straight it is, do the same thing with the bottom half. As you're applying on the wall use a straight edge tool(I used my debit card) and smooth out the tape, trying to leave behind no bubbles. Another tip, paint quickly! The first stripe I painted, I applied two coats of paint and then peeled off the tape when I was finished. Some paint peeled off with the tape and I had to go back with a tiny brush and clean my lines. Luckily it wasn't too bad. I didnt have that issue with the rest. Bleeding happens. Prepare for touch ups. Mark where you're going to put the tape and use a leveler. Be patient. If I can do it, I'm sure you can too.

I came up with this great I deal to paint a bookshelf for my classroom in the chevron pattern. I looked up how to paint a chevron pattern and tried it with regular painters tape. After a few hours of trying regular painters tape my mom informed me that this product existed. She and this frogtape saved my sanity. This stuff is so much easier than piecing together regular painters tape. If you're going to paint in chevron pattern, buy this. You will not regret it. I measured the length of the bookshelf, cut pieces, and put it down. So easy.

I have an older house that has plaster walls with some texture and this worked great. I applied a lot of pressure to the edge as I applied it and then went back over the seam with the paint from the upper section per a recommendation I read when researching the product. The tape came off easily and did not pull any of the paint off that I could see. I had only a few small spots that needed touch up where I hadn't applied the paint as evenly as I should. Definitely would use this product again.

I love this tape and use it when I teach paint classes. You have to be careful because it does bleed through sometimes if the paint is still wet or runny. This is a huge help when clients want to paint chevron patterns. It is such a time saver! Great product. My Walmart discontinued this product so I have to buy it online now.
