Great build size for the money

The assembly was straight forward. Ease of setup was excellent. Did my first print, and there was a horrible grinding noise from the Z-axis. Did one adjustment, corrected a misaligned part on the carriage. This machine prints very well. Have printed objects as small as .25 inch square (approx 6.25 mm) and had really good detail. Largest print was done at a diagonal, and got a 10 inch print (250 mm ?) with all of the Subtleties that you would expect from a must higher priced machine. The buildplate is a thick piece of metal that has integrated weep holes throughout the primary internal build area. Thus eliminating the "suction from the rise of the plate from the LED screen, and potentially having your print pulled from the plate. The top of the plate is parallel to the bottom. This is a design flaw. The resin sits on top of the plate after printing. This makes for another step of cleaning that other printers do not suffer from. I have used 4 different manufacturers resins, and various types. So far all have printed very well. You will have to adjust you exposure times for Water Washable resins. This does increase the print times, but as Safer resins are becoming more popular, I will be using them exclusively in the near future. In short, if you are looking to get a far bigger print area than the standard currently on the market, I would highly recommend the Kelant S400s. Its price point puts it in line with the following smaller resin printers. Anycubic Photon, Longer Orange 10 and 30, Elegoo Mars. And you get a far greater model volume.

Let down

I'll take you through my journey and highlight everything that went wrong and what I like. Obviously I chose this printer in an attempt to go for the standard 5.5" small scale SLA printers to something more impressive 8.9"The first issue arose during assembly. frame for the windows that mount on top of the base require grub-screws to secure the frame to the base. While they came with more than enough, there was absolutely no mention of using them(and the smallest included allen key set was too big- I literally had to find a spare one that was even smaller than the smallest one they gave me), in the manual (I had to watch a youtube video on assembling the older S400 model to realize that was what they were for)My next issue was the plexiglass panes were incorrectly cut, and because of it, I have gaps on the sides, but the biggest issue I had was the top pane which was too long, and I was forced to sand down about 1/8" to get it to fit. The second issue was with the frame screws... the included allen key did not fit properly and because the screws were so tight, I ended up stripping the screws. LUCKILY... the one that came with my anycubic photon actually pit perfectly and even managed to give me enough torque to tighten the partially stripped screws in securely (whew!)Okay, with everything put together I noticed the resin vat is HUGE... WAY too big for the LCD screen- it was obviously designed for a larger printer which wouldn't bother me so much, but it means I need to add more resin than I need to evenly distribute the resin. Along with that the build plate is flat on top so any resin that rises past it just pools on top of the grow plate with no way to drain. (The S400s model has the solid build plate without drain holes) So that just ended up making it more messy...Okay time for the printing. First thing I did was look around to see my options.. THere was no Wifi option...which.. is odd because it's supposedly supposed to support wifi... Well whatever, I just upgraded the firmware, maybe that was the issue- Nope, still no wifi even after the upgrade. Apparently Kelant removed this option despite this being an "upgraded" model. After making sure my plate was level I decided to try printing their COVID-19 mask that they include on their website. After loading the Chitubox profile for the printer and using their pre-supported model, I sliced it with the default settings they suggested. Print failed half way. the supports were way too small and the heavy mask pulled off part of the support and caused deformation. Tried it again with their other profile setting... Failed again, this time the entire mask pulled off the supports and just built itself onto the FEP instead. :\ Well that was a waste of resin.EDIT: After a good 10 or so attempts to print various models, all 10 of them failed. I've tried changing the exposure settings, I've tried changing the model orientation and even the support structures. Every single one failed at the supports. I've wasted a good $10-15 just on cured supports alone. It's going back, looks like I'll have to wait until the Elegoo Saturn comes out.Really disappointed that Kelant's own settings were not working, you'd think it'd be optimally designed to work properly..

First SLA printer, took some tuning and getting used to it

Been running Prusa MK3 for couple years and it always just works, and I run it a LOT. Wanted some more detail and smoothness and needed large build volume so went with this Kelant SLA.Build quality is good, very heavy duty all metal. The acrylic enclosure is not UV resistant and the door hinges were wonky for me, so I just run it in vented basement bathroom "topless" with the lights off.First days of trying to print were frustrating, the manual's slicer settings (same as included import file) just wouldn't work it seemed, lots of parts stuck to the FEP or base but nothing in middle. The included pre-sliced test object DID print, so used the Anycubic Photon Validator freeware to see the settings in the pre-sliced file, made those my default settings and since then printing OK (see picture for what those are for the 'birdcage' pre-sliced file).Destroyed FEP first day getting stuck failed print off (stretch mark), so get a pack of those... Have used Monoprice white, Elegoo clear, black and gray resins and so far I'm getting stuff printed OK, and still getting used to SLA (and gloves, IPA, messy resin, cleaning, curing, etc). SLA prints are REALLY brittle too, I print mechanical parts so the FDM Prusa stays busy on 'pressure parts' whereas knobs and such in SLA are much nicer.Haven't used tech support but others say they are responsive. I rate this a 4 because it does work and build quality is good and it has a large 7.6" x 4.8" x 7.8" build volume. Uses Chitubox software which seems to be the standard and pretty straightforward.
