This is a Great Movie for Kids and Adults alike
This movie is great because is it not only about a horse (s), but it also teaches a little bit of American history concerning the building of the railroad and the relationship between the Dakota Indians and the U.S. Calvary. It can be harsh at times, however issues are worked through and the ending is great. Highly recommend this movie!!

Classic Movie in High Definition
The blu-ray version of this movie maintains a widescreen aspect ratio, but it does not fill the entire screen. It features bonus features from the DVD release, thought it lacks the animated menu screen which has now been replaced by a still image. The movie itself relies heavily CG-2D when it comes to generic background characters or pivotal characters in certain animated shots. This usage of such cg becomes more apparent given the higher resolution. The story itself is how I remember it. A horse gets arrogant, then endures a long ordeal filled with pain, sorrow, and happiness in the pursuit of a large conflict resolution. The movie alludes to a theme of freedom symbolically represented by an eagle and further emphasized by imprisonment. The main character serves as a liberator of his brethren who have suffered fates of repression. It feels like an allegory for slavery and colonization. Slavery represented through the suffrage of the horses and colonization shown through native american people. Parallels are drawn between both the horse and his bipedal ally of freedom. Both possess long pristine hair, untouched. Both display playful arrogance towards their captors. Both desire freedom.

Such a great movie
I absolutely loved this movie when it first came out and I love it just as much now. It has such a great story and it can be enjoyed by kids and adults. And I really liked how they made it a bit more realistic and didn't have the horses actually talk to each other but you still got the idea of what they'd be thinking and feeling.

Wonderful movie
My 3 year old daughter loves this movie and often asks to see the "horse" movie again. It is very well done and presented the mustang point of view. The movement of the horses as well as the interactions amoung the animals and the people are believable. The story is interesting from the beginning right to the end for all ages, and for younger ones, it does not have any scary 'witches' that exist in many of the disney movies. My daughter is very concerned for the horses during the movie, but I am not worried that she will have nightmares afterwards. We definitely got our money's worth with this purchase due to its enjoyment level and number of times it has been watched already. I am sure it won't be the last time she asks to watch the horses.

One of the best!
This is one of my favorite movies. All the kids I've shown it to are mesmerized by it. Moved by it. If your looking for something different than a goofy movie or same ol kid movie try this one. I work at a preschool. We watched this and they played "Horses" for a couple weeks. It's very unique. Beautiful looking, great story telling. The horses don't talk but act like real horses. The main character is narrating in a human voice. I guess it's his "Spirit". You have to watch it to understand but it's wonderfully done.Loved it for years with my own kids. Now I love sharing it with others. I actually bought this copy as a gift. I haven't given it to her yet but I'm looking forward to it. I know she'll love it.

The Best animated film since the Lion King
Spirit may not have been the box office success that the Lion King was, but it gives it a run for its money in terms of music and story. In fact the music composer for both films is indeed Hans Zimmer. And as usual he does a fantastic job. The songs by Bryan Adams are also great and really go well with the story. The real magic of this movie is the fact that the horses are not as anthropomorphic (meaning they don't talk or sing). Their neighs and whines and facial expressions are enough to create their own dialogue in a way that you don't need words to know what they are saying. If Disney had made this movie, the film would be ruined. Overall this is a really beautiful movie and is extremely underrated. The story is timeless and the soundtrack is fantastic. For me its in my top three with the Lion King and Finding Nemo. This is a must own.

amazing movie real tear jerker
This movie brings my early childhood memories I didn’t even know I had. I love this movie it’s only that I wish it was real and I could ride bare back feeling the wind through my hair. Ahh my ancestors were native so I can only imagine the kind of freedom they had it the wide open spaces. Anyway great movie no scratches thank a bunch !

good story
Grandchildren enjoyed watching this and their grandparents weren't put off by watching it, either. Not real, but fun to watch.

One of the most inspiring animated films you'll ever watch. I love Spirit!
The front cover looks a little childish and cheesy, but don't judge a book by its cover! This film is amazing! It's so inspiring, it really takes you on a proper journey, the soundtrack is fantastic and really compliments every moment of the film with sadness, love, suspense, and thought provoking music which is key as the music is basically representing how spirit feels as apart from a narractor from time to time spirit doesn't speak which adds to the beauty of this film and makes it even more inspiring and moving. The main characters Spirit, Rain, and Little Creek are loverble and a delite to watch. I'm a big softy with animals and for the animal lovers there are scenes that will make you cry but it is so worth your time. I loved this film when I first watched it at age 11, and I still love it now at age 23 :)

the black beauty of animation set in the far green prairies and deserts of the Wild West
"Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron" is a fantastic feature film, one that echoes the time when human civilization arose in the Wild Western lands of America, and Native American tribes lived in harmony with the animals. We follow the adventures of Spirit, a beautiful, wild hearted mustang, who takes up the position as the leader of the Cimarron herd after his development from babyhood to adulthood, and immediately puts his herd before himself. In a world ruled by people, he and his herd cannot know what dangers might befall them, and being completely one with nature you could say that Spirit is as much a part of the Wild West itself, never mind the bit, the bridle or the saddle. Throughout his adventures, he braves all kinds of situations and always puts up a fight; he is, as critics describe '"the Jackie Chan of horses"'. He also reminds me of Houdini the escape artist. A great movie made by Dreamworks, "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron" is a truly unforgettable film just right for horse lovers and those who just like to be pitched into another country through the magic of story telling.

Masterpiece of Animation
It's been a long time since the intro to ANY film animated or otherwise has been a big hit for me but this is THE exception. The whole film is great but the beginning really pulls you right in there. The animation and soundtrack are perfectly matched. I'm not a Bryan Adams fan really but he does a fantastic job with his contributions. Filmscore music is tops also. It's the best animated feature I've really enjoyed since perhaps watership Down(not comparing the two on a technical level). A great story and a feast for the eyes.Great for adults and children alike. My 3.5yr old loves it. I'm really irritated by apparent reviewers who don't actually review but instead give the whole plot of the film (??) I wont spoil it for you ..just be sure to see it if you haven't already!
