Sports Illustrated The Baseball Book Expanded Edition

This is a beautiful book. But, whoever picked out the villians for each decade missed it by far.......Hitler was listed twice and Joe Stalin not once! Hitler was an angel compared to Stalin. Joe McCarthy was mentioned and he has been proved right about his charges. He was a hero for fighting Communism....Oswald and Ray and Sirhan have serious questions about their charges of murder...Hazlewood was mentioned for his oil spill, and not Stalin or Begin or Katyn Forest or Rosenbergs or the rape of Nanking by Japanese or Milosovic or any number of serial killers and other despots who slaughtered millions of their own people.

I purchased this as a Christmas gift for my niece's husband. He still plays on a community baseball team and really loves the sport. He was delighted with it. He immediately opened it and I could see that it was a well put together book. The photos were spectacular and from the comments I overheard as he was looking at it, it seemed to have excellent historical coverage. When the day was over and we were all starting for our homes, he was still reading. As a gift, it was a "home run".I think it will make an excellent birthday gift for my nephew and will purchase another one.

If you're knowledgeable about the history of baseball, this book with reward you with hundreds of large-scale, gorgeous images from all eras of the game.However, the book provides very little context for the photographs. While it includes a few random essays sprinkled throughout, The Baseball Book is 95% photos with short captions.Not great for a young kid just learning about baseball on his own, but fantastic for a father to share with his kids.

My nine year old loves baseball and is the kind of kid who likes to pore over books that are loaded with facts and pictures. He got this for his birthday and took to it immediately. The Sports Illustrated people have tried to put the baseball facts into a larger pop cultural context, so the young reader learns, for instance, who won the World Series in 1953 and what famous people were born that year.A lot of the pictures I've never seen before, so it's a fun book for this non-young reader as well.

For me I love history and to see the history of America's past time in photos is fantastic. And if you like stats it has all the leaders broken down by decade and also brief summaries of what was part of the general culture in whatever decade it was, such as the 50s for example, and what well known celebrities were born or died then.

For all those that still think Baseball is the "greatest sport on earth", this book will keep your excitement and passion for the game alive. I purchased the book for like $18 and could not be more happier. I have a 3 year old son who also can view the many photographs. Thank You

Een boek dat iedere rechtgeaarde honkballiefhebber in de kast moet hebben staan. Buitengewoon knappe en soms ontroerende foto's met memorabele momenten. Het verrijkt je kennis ook nog eens. Alleen jammer dat bij de uitklapfoto van de beste honkballers aller tijden de naam van Derek Jeter niet staat vermeld.

Fantastic book, for a second hand book it was in very good condition. A very good read plus superb pictures.All in all very pleased.

We purchased this book and the Hockey S.I. for our two grandsons. The Baseball book has been opened and was received quite well. He 13 years old and playing baseball in a us/cdn league. He seemed quite interested in the pictures from the past. Especially the catchers equipment as that is his position. I would highly recommend this book. Even for very big boys! (men)

Simply great, the pictures are so real it looks as if we are there. Facts about what happen in the world are also given on each decade. This book is a must for any baseball fan.

Für Baseball-Nerds eine lohnende Investition. Schon die die erste Edition war ihr Geld wert, die Erweiterung mit Bilder und Infos zu den letzten zehn Jahren ist ebenfalls top! Hat man das erste Buch schon, dann ist es schon recht teuer, sich für ca. 20 neue Seiten das ganze Buch quasi nochmal zu kaufen. Für mich als Hardcore-Fan aber trotzdem Pflicht :-)

Bought this book for an elderly gentleman who has been baseball fan since the 20's. He is not a big reader so i wanted something that he could just open at any page and enjoy it. This book is perfect for that, and I even really enjoyed looking at it and i'm no baseball fan.
