The Beekman 1802 Heirloom Cookbook: Heirloom fruits and vegetables, and more than 100 heritage recipes to inspire every generation

Love this cookbook
I have made almost every single recipe in this cookbook (my goal is to make every recipe before the year's up). It was one of the best purchases I've ever made. I think that there were only a couple side dishes that I didn't care for, but almost everything else I've LOVED. The recipes are simple and not pretentious and only use fresh and wholesome ingredients, so I can cook from this almost every day and know that it's healthy. I am creative in the kitchen and like to tweak most recipes (thankfully this book includes spaces for writing notes next to each dish.) For those who are not as experienced and like to measure out everything perfectly and to the letter, you might not enjoy this book as much as I did and some proportions may be off. Some recipes are absolutely perfect as written, and some are good for base recipes. Some of my favorites are the spinach salad with nasturtiums, mixed greens tart, mini ham and cheese biscuits, pasta with bacon and chestnuts, orange gingerbread, corn fritters, blue cheese pizza, beer-braised beef with onion dumplings, and maple glazed sweet potatoes.

Fantastic, and unlike any other!
Like the Beekman Boys themselves, this cookbook is like no other that I have (and I'm a cookbook junkie)! It is beautifully photographed, and there are so many wonderful recipes that are sorted by season, so you can get what is fresh. They live on the east coast, and I the west, so some things won't be available locally for me, but there is a "notes" section on each individual recipe so you can add your changes and keep track of what works! The recipes are unique and I can't wait to cook my way through this cookbook, which isn't something I can say for most of the ones I have, typically its a few recipes, but I want to try nearly everything in this book!I would highly recommend this as an addition to your collection or a gift for the cookbook junkie in your life. They will love it! There's even a section for you to add your own recipes to the book so that it can be passed down for generations.

Earns its marks!
The recipes are very nice although I haven't done any yet, but just browsing I can't wait to get cooking. The book is well organized, informative, practical and the photos are nice. It also has spaces in the pages to write notes or even space for new recipes (at the end of the book). All the reviews lauding this book are well earned and I will update when I get a few recipes done, but for now I'm pleased to have bought it to add to my cookbook library. In Heirloom tradition, the book has new recipes so it is a great variation from books that just take the same old recipes and change a bit and call it something else. This book is great to gift, to keep or just to look at, yup it's that purdy!

Another Beekman Hit
When Brent and Josh, mentioned on their show, The Fabulous Beekman Boys, that they were doing a cookbook, I knew that the book would be beautiful but it really passed my expectations. All the products coming from Beekman 1802 are wonderful and brilliant ideas coming from two wonderful people, Brent and Josh. This cookbook is wonderful for families who want to pass their books down through the generations. You are able to put notes in the margins, add some of your own recipes from the notecards that are included and to cook by the seasonal availableness of items grown from your own garden, the local farmers market or even from your local food store. Brent and Josh really put a lot of thought and effort into making this book for themselves and for everyone who uses it. I can't wait to get cooking and sharing with family and friends.

"Now, THIS, is what a cookbook should be!"
I purchased three cookbooks. One for me and two for gifts. I gave the first one yesterday to a friend as a birthday present and his first response was "Now, THIS is what a cookbook should be!" Brent and Josh do everything with panache! Richly photographed, with an elegant, functional aesthetic, the book is brilliantly divided by seasons, with soulful narratives and tips that spark memories of your own family traditions. "Heirloom" is the perfect name for this divine cookbook, for it will surely be passed to generations to come!We attended the Garden Party at the Beekman, toured the farm and tried many of their products, (The Blaak is exceptional). This cookbook has left us only wanting more... I plan to order more cookbooks and plan a trip back to Sharon Springs to see these boys who really are FABULOUS!

It should have been better
Let me start by saying I am a fan of the Beekman Boys. I have watched most of the shows and read some of their blog postings. I really wanted to like this cookbook. But honestly, there are so many problems with it that I am having trouble giving it the one star.First, and this is a big one, the food isn't good. I have followed all of the instructions to the letter and the food came out dull. The recipes range from complicated to simple and all of the ones I tried were blah.Second, cost. Not the book, of most of the ingredients. Unless you live in the area where they wrote this book, expect to spend time and money getting the exact ingredients. As an Ina fan, I am used to tracking down ingredients. However this book brought that to a whole level. And, again, in the end, it wasn't worth it for the food.Third, and finally, the photos (of the food). They look like something out of the 1970s. Poor lighting, cheap imitation antiques, and the food doesn't even look good. It is so bad you can see they didn't even take photos of real food in some of them. Yes, take a look, fake flowers, fake herbs, fake food. You can tell by the texture and look of them. Even my child could see it was fake. When I ordered the book, I was pondering whether to go ahead and prepay their dessert book that is coming out this year. I am soooooo glad I didn't waste the money.

The Beekman 1802 Heirloom Cookbook
My wife got the book after going to a presentation at the Ad Club in Utica New York. I think we will have a lot of fun doing the cooking together. But a warning {WARNING} we tried the Bourbon Roast Turkey ,page 146, and after an hour of cooking my wife opened the oven and as soon as the air from outside of the oven mixed with the air inside the oven a fire flash took place. It was over fast but it burnt her hair. Be careful.
