Eye-Opening, Makes You Think
I spent many parts of this book thinking "Is she crazy or is this just lost information?". To think that there was a time where prominent dog breeders, trainers, and even veterinarians were wary about vaccines and kibble is wild to think now. To imagine a time where parvo wasn't even a thing?? I wish she were still alive so I could ask her questions! The amount of times she recommended grapes as healthful to dogs made me do a deep dive into why grapes are supposedly toxic to dogs, as is the current knowledge. From what I found find, there is a specific component in grapes that is more or less depending on where and how the grapes are grown, and if there's too much of that component, THAT'S what makes grapes toxic. So maybe the way they were grown back in her day in Europe made them not only safe but healthful. But now the soil is weak and the pesticides are strong and that poisonous component has made grapes dangerous for our canine friends. This book really made me think about stuff like that. Definitely worth the read!

A great source of information on doing things, the natural way with dogs and cats
The only thing I would fall the author for is recommending fasting. I wouldn’t make myself fast. So why would I make my pet fast and she believes in doing things the natural way in this way she is ahead of her time and up-to-date despite the information being old. Also, she has traveled the world and knows about how animals are treated in other cultures like. This book is a great source of information if you have a dog or if you are raising dogs it’s not so thorough on information about cats. she says that most of the information about dog supplies equally to cats but I disagree because dogs will eat things that cats will not and a lot of the things she suggest you feed your cat eye things they wouldn’t want to eat unless they were mixed in with other food. Her philosophy of staying close to nature and doing things the natural way leads her to make many common sense assumptions that are correct and helpful for dogs and cats. I wish I could find her book on cat care, but it’s out of print and I plan on buying her book on raising children.

A thankful reader
I had bought two of Juliette's herbal books for cats and dogs when I read another book by a different author who had recommended Juliette's books specifically. One of our cats had developed a strange problem where his fur ceased to grow in a large area on his left flank. The spot started out small but gradually grew large and larger until a spot several inches in diameter was mostly fur-less on our cat. Our vet ran a number a tests which came up negative and we even ran tests twice. Our vet said he didn't know the cause of the problem. We had our cat for years and he is an indoor cat fed typical dry cat food (Whiskas), as are all our kitties, and we also give our cats canned tuna fish frequently, as well as chicken breast, turkey breast and beef occasionally. We didn't think his problem could be diet-related. Our other cats are very healthy and our vet even remarked on their coats saying they were the most beautiful he had seen. We tried some things the vet suggested, including giving our cat vitamin E supplements and even cod liver oil but nothing helped the problem and it just seemed to get worse over several months. I searched around the internet trying to find informataion on a possible cause of his condition but found nothing really. I thought perhaps his problem could be a thyroid condition. When I consulted Juliette's book, she recommended seaweed, garlic or raw egg yolks for thyroid problems. As I already had eggs in the house, I decided to try those first. I mixed raw egg yolk into my cat's tuna fish and fed that to him on several days and then we noticed that his fur looked like it was growing back. I worried about feeding him too much egg yolks as I didn't want him getting too much cholesterol so I ceased feeding the egg yolk after about a week but his fur continued to grow back until it was all the way grown back and he seems fine now. I'm thankful this book helped us find a way to help our cat. It was worth the price of the book just for the help with that one problem, though I will continue to consult the book in future if my cats need any more treatment for any future ailments. Juliette seems very knowledgeable about natural and herbal remedies. I bought her book "Common Herbs for Natural Health" and used some of her recommended treatments on myself as well with very good results.

Good but not Good Enough
There is a wealth of information in this book if you breed; however, there is a lot of incorrect information as well. This book was originally written by a vet back in the 1930s. She has updated it since. This vet promotes grapes, onions as part of a raw diet... to feed your dog which is considered a no, no now. My dog just started suffering from hip dysplasia which the author is correct to point out hip dysplasia does not exist in Great Britain because they don't feed their dogs commercial pet food. While there is some good information in this book, I am finding I like Dr. Pitcairn's book better.

Don't Raise Dogs Without This Book!
This book is indispensable for anyone who wants to raise healthy puppies and keep them healthy throughout their lives. Some would argue with minute issues in this book, but I am one of a group of people who swear by Ms. Levy's methods, and we have all had wonderfully healthy animals, not to mention practically no vet bills. Read it thoroughly, and then JUST DO IT!!!! You'll never regret it, and your animals will thank you for it!

the Art of Natural Rearing
Juliette was such an extraordinary veterinarian,I bought her books after watching a documentary on Food Matters. her other book : Common herbs for Natural Health is an inspirational Herba medica and more. with this handbook for cats and dogs, a lot of ailments are described with their herbal remedies. The diet is reveling of a not so far away wisdom, and it seems to be the key of husbanding the good health of your loved animal . I have put my dog straight away on it . to get away from the pressure of the big industry, as well as to preserve my pet good heath, and of course to give it a chance of a long life without cancer and other modern ailment .Of course one needs to have access to nature in order to start learning this Art, but Juliette is so inspiring , it is easy to get motivated
