Good taste and priced right compared to real bacon bits

i've been using imitation bacon bits for decades but was so happy to be able to buy in bulk on amazon. one 14 oz container is equivalent to four of the regular size containers available at the grocery store. this really saves a lot of money. bits still taste fresh, are great in soups, salads, casseroles & i've even used them in a hurry in a 'fake bacon' sandwich.

Very similar to Schilling bacon bits .

Adds bacon flavor and a hard crunch to a salad. The flavor is somewhat mild. I'd say it's a 7/10 next to real bacon. So it doesn't taste exactly like real bacon. But its not real bacon so its not expected. If familiar with sodas the flavor is essentially the difference between cola and diet cola. This would be the diet cola. However mixed into a salad its nice. Don't expect to need a lot of this if a bacon lover. I would not cover a salad with this or use it abundantly on a salad such as you might on a Cobb. As said it adds bacon like flavor and crunch. You would not think to eat a pinch of this on its own or as part of a snack. But added to certain foods its fine. Its good for soups. The water hydrates the pieces and they soften nicely while adding some bacon flavor. I like adding it to beef ramen noodles in a cup. Its perfect for that. It goes in before I pour the boiling water in and a few minutes later I have an all new flavor. Beef and Bacon cup of Ramen. So good I'm surprised no one has marketed it.About that crunch, however. These are tiny and HARD pebble like pieces. And if you have sensitive teeth or compromised dental work you may find them unpleasant to bite into. They also tend to find their way between the teeth. Did I mention they are hard? So if your teeth and gums are sensitive to hard, crunchy food I would say avoid these. The texture is not like bacon, nor the crunch. They are not flat, brittle pieces. As said they resemble tiny, hard pebbles. So, there 'ya go.

A quick addition to many dishes, from tuna salad to potato soup to grits. The docs says it is okay for vegans, too - so nice to travel for motel-microwave additions to get full flavor without the no-no of 'real bacon' which is a no-no for the vegan diet. Non-vegans in the family love it, too, and the addition of even a small amount is noticeable so this jar will last a lonnnng time, oh yes. Not the best since it is processed, etc. but hey there are "those times" when real life happens and we have to compromise a wee bit, so it is still within our own guidelines, after all. Overall, it "A good buy."

They lacked the bacon taste, compared to McCormick's bacon flavored bits.

The aroma and flavor reminds me of real bacon.I appreciate that it is readily available, I don’t have to cook it. I also appreciate that it is gluten free and vegetarian.
