The Boater's Cookbook: 450 Quick & Easy Galley-Tested Recipes

Book arrived damaged but appears to be a great cookbook for a live aboard cook!
I gave 5 stars for the content if the book. The recipes seem to have fairly simple ingredients although a few might be easier to prepare at dockside since I might not carry all necessary ingredients on board at all times. And the beginning of the book will be invaluable for it’s content concerning the organization of the galley and stocking the pantry. I have read a few pages already and I know that it will be a resource that I will refer to often in the future. Thank you to the author Capt. Sylvia Williams Dabney!!! My only disappointment is the condition that the book arrived in. It was in a bubble wrap type plastic sack. Unfortunately it was somehow damaged in transit, I assume. I have posted pics showing the cover dented and slightly torn and the pages beneath the cover damage are damaged as well in two spots. That is very disappointing considering I purchased the book new, not used or damaged. The book is still usable despite damage so I don’t want to be bothered with trying to return it. However, I would not say no if the seller might want to offer a small discount off another book in the future! :)

Wonderful recipes, great ideas for cooking and storing food in small spaces, well written and beautifully illustrated.
Sylvia and Stanley have been in my life for nearly 50 years and Stanley is my husband's cousin. They have entertained us with food, wine and sailing trips and are wonderful hosts, fabulous cooks and love to share stories of their life and adventures. I have totally enjoyed reading this cookbook about some of the friends they have met in their travels who have shared their love of cooking and their delicious recipes. We live in the Seattle area and have not experienced some of the ingredients mentioned. I am looking forward to trying new things and twists on old recipes. My husband does not cook but has enjoyed reading about their adventures and, as an artist, appreciates the colorful illustrations and drawings. I have given two of my best friends copies of this book for birthday gifts. One friend is a power boater mainly in the San Juan Islands and on into Canada. The storage tips, substitutions list and conversion charts are very convenient. Both of them also give this book high reviews! It is obvious that much time and care was put into selecting wonderful recipes.

I wholeheartedly recommend the Boater's Cookbook especially the lemon shrimp a la Roger for anyone with a taste for seafood. Great sailing stories and helpful hints by Sylvia. I hope you enjoy the variety of recipes as much as I have enjoyed creating the illustrations.Roger H Newell

Good Lord This Book is Awesome
I originally bought this book for recipes to use in the galley of my 34 ft bluewater sailboat while on passage and out cruising, but turns out it has some pretty great additional advice too. Now it's my galley bible.

I LOVE this cookbook
I LOVE this cookbook!! Every recipe I've tried turned out beautifully and tasted delicious. I also love the extra chapters that include Equivalents and substitutions, best storage methods, detailed information about spices etc. Since the author lived on a boat space was tight and so were provisions...that's the awesome thing about her recipes...you can make gourmet meals right in your own kitchen with everyday ingredients!!!!!

Mixed thoughts
Not really what I expected. I would have liked more tips for cooking on a boat. This book doesn't consider limited pantry or space for cooking. That aside the recipes are good!
