What's not to like about a music box mechanism? This little guy arrived and I didn't want to take it out of the factory packaged box that it came in! It looks great with a "classic" design and would make a great gift right there...BUT... In order for any music box mechanism to work correctly it needs to be mounted to a box, plank of wood, even a glass mirror, for it to be heard with full volume and tonal clarity. Example: A cigar box would be perfect if mounted or glued firmly. The volume and tonal difference when mounted is astounding! It has a plastic bottom piece that is attached with three small screws that can be removed if you want to use the holes to secure it to a wooden box or platform. If you are mounting this inside a box, keep in mind that the cranking lever does not remove, so you must compensate by drilling a hole in a location that will allow you to "fish it through" the hole or opening. The mechanism works freely and easily. The musical phrase is somewhat short, but plays "the hook melody line" to your favorite selection. CAUTION: I have not turned the crank handle in the opposite direction (as to play the melody backwards) and I do not intend to, though if you feel brave or reckless, we would appreciate your feedback as to how it operates when "played backwards." I found a large novelty wooden clothes pin and used crazy glue to mount it. What a terrific original little gift! The ideas are endless and quite affordable. I will be buying more of these for crafts and gifts! (I just wish they made the packaging more uglier! - lol.)

The tone and melody of this music box is perfect. It's easy to use and enjoyable to listen to. I have bought one as a gift. BUT I've also used mine in my SCIENCE class to teach about SOUND WAVES. The kids loved it. AND they were SO quiet during the demonstration. They were also fascinated as they took turns winding it and listening. They'd heard music boxes but they'd never seen the actual mechanism. What a fun way to consider that sweet music travels to our ears through sound waves! Even if you don't teach science, you will enjoy this music box and find that it makes a great gift for any age group!

I purchased this music box for my girlfriend as a valentine's day gift. Although the product arrived in excellent time, I found it bouncing around in a box far to large for it, and while it is rather small, no attempt was made to secure or protect it. Some inflated air packets were included, however they did not keep the item in place and therefore their effect was basically null. The product was, nevertheless, unharmed and in total working order. The music box itself is quite cute. Although I expected it to come in some sort of case, it is just a little bare-bones music box inside a cardboard package. I can see this working very well in a DIY music box project of some sort, although I have no such plans. Overall it seems reasonably well made and I didn't have any trouble with the hand crank mechanism. The little handle is very light and quite small, however, so don't expect to have a spot-on tempo when turning it. The musical arrangement is good and it does play through the full song. Although (obviously) the music box does not have quality resonance on its own, it amplifies quite well on a large wooden surface such as a piano. I have not tested it on glass, and so I cannot confirm whether or not it may rattle or vibrate on that surface. Again, however, it sounds excellent on wood. I would buy it again and additionally I would return to this seller if ever I did attempt a DIY music box project of some sort.

Every little note was clear and crisp. Every turn of the crank was smooth. I got this for my 9 year old, he and I have sang this little tune together since he was a baby. He thinks that this music box is a marvel, simple yet complex, and it's really captured his imagination and sense of whimsy. For the small price, it's a little gift that has been a huge hit! Do note that the cardboard box it's housed in has an open window, it's not covered, so you can actually touch the tines and barrel. Fine for an older child, but I wouldn't let my toddler play with it just yet. I may look into the plastic housed ones next, just for longevity, since I don't plan on putting this into a permanent box, (though it has predrilled holes, so it can be). But, bottom line this little crank music box is just so charming, and well worth getting!

Purchased "Here Comes the Sun" music box. The melody is a little muddled and sounds tinny and a bit off key at some points, but is recognizable. The hand crank is a little shallow and more difficult to turn as compared to other crank music boxes i.e. Fridolin Germany crank music boxes have a smooth hand-crank with very crisp, clear melody. This is a decent music box, but compared to the competition, 3 stars given for price vs. quality (paid $13.80). And yeah, I'm kind of into music boxes and collect them. So, side-by-side comparison with the others in my collection, this did not have the same quality and feel. If those things do not matter to you, then yes, this is a music box and it sounds a bit like an ice cream truck is playing 'Hear comes the sun" from two blocks away ;-D.

Love it! At first I wasn't sure. It seemed to completely miss the first few notes, and over all had a very flat tone to it, except the last few notes. Yes, I placed it on a very solid object, and it still seemed wrong, or weird, or not right. I know the Pink Panther theme! I noticed that the piece with the "prongs/teeth" was slightly crooked and not striking the bumps on the barrel correctly. It's fastened down with two screws, I just had to loosen one screw and adjust the prongs/teeth so they were exactly parallel to the barrel. Fixed! Whoever put it together just put a little too much torque on it and it was not aligned properly. It works beautifully. Pink Panther theme = Happy Childhood Memory

It sounds so sweet & clear that I wished it was a wind up one & could swap with one in a box we have. Really very nice indeed. A great 'bit of whimsy' for a Christmas stocking.
