Gary Friedman's guide to the Sony Alpha 37 and 57 is a great way to learn all the little details about the cameras. He doesn't stop there, though. With plenty of expertise to draw from, Friedman shares plenty of knowledge to help the reader take better pictures regardless of the camera. I recommend this book (or any of his Sony Alpha books) for the new owner.The B&W edition was good, but I also recommend spending a little extra for the color edition.

I have explored getting different books to tell me how to use my new sony a 57 and am glad I purchased this one, which you can get online as a trial offer for around $20 - - which is what I did. Hard to imagine that anyone could write over 400 pages on a camera, but Gary did and it is well worth the read. I would recommend buying it online for a couple of reasons, at least first: the color version of this book is over $100, which is a good price considering all that you get - the b&w version retails for just over $40...but you lose the plus of seeing what the camera can do in color under different settings and conditions. The other reason, is that if you dont like it, the e version, just tell Gary you want your money back. I have looked briefly at another big seller by Busch that apparently gets a lot more technical, telling you what each of the buttons does etc. etc. Friedman does not go into that extensive detail but frankly I am not so interested in that level of tech knowledge...I just want to know how to use the camera, have an understanding and appreciation for what it can do, and how I can do it. The book is actually written by Friedman and Phillips just to give the latter some airplay. In short, go to his website and pay the $20+ bucks and hit the download button...you will definitely not be disappointed and if you for some reason are, within the first 14 days you can get your money back.
