Initially I tried these on with my usual socks. They are what I considered normal thickness much like tube socks for work shoes. I did have some above the ankle socks I wear with most casual dress shoes and they are thinner and smoother. Wow, what a difference. Helped the shoe slip on easier and relieved the pressure I was feeling in my arch.Shoes seem well made, nice looking for dress or casual. Versatile and a good value especially caught on sale. Also a good firm heel with just a bit of height which I like. Could switch out insert for gel if needed later. Expect some time for break in period. Elastic is firm.

Great shoe and true to size. We had a hard time finding this particular finish at other locations and were happy to find it on Amazon. This shoe is comfortable for walking and can serve as a dress shoe.

These are VERY good shoes. Excellent walking shoes, very durable, usable as (not black tie) dress shoes with some polish. The heavily textured sole wraps up on the toe and I did glue that back down once over three years heavy use but my first pair is still my everyday work pair. These are the solid leather tops model.

I loved my other pair of Merrell shoes purchased from Amazon (size 8), so I thought I would buy online again (naturally, size 8 again). So I was a little bit disappointed at the pair that arrived, despite being nominally the same size, was bigger than the previous pair, and too big to wear comfortably even with thick socks. Sad to return them because I hate to think them going into a landfill. Otherwise these were a beautiful, rich dark chocolate color, very well made, and might last 3 years or more even with hard wear, if my other shoes were anything to go by.
