Ac adapter
I bought this for the cooler it was designed for. Worked great. Went on a 5 day camping trip, plugged cooler into vehicle for the ride up and then plugged cooler into the adapter and to shore power for the duration of my stay. Worked flawlessly.

Simple, compact, and extremely useful
Lots of products like this one out there. Stop looking here; I can promise you'll be very happy with this one! We love our powered cooler/warner for long car trips. And we love even more, when we stop for the night, that we can take our cooler inside wherever we're staying for the night and use this adapter to power it off of a wall outlet. No more wondering if our hotel will have a refrigerator that we can use and having to unload the cooler into it then reload it in the morning. We specifically bought this one to go with our Koolatron cooler to know that it's going to give the cooler the power that it needs, not too much or too little current. We've had other power supplies and coolers in the past. I like this one a lot because of it's small size, making it that much easier to travel with. Added bonus that it can power other things that would normally plug into the car's power jacks when we're not in the car. Whether you have a Koolatron cooler or just want to power something else, this is a great choice among the many similar products available.

Confusing instructions
I purchased this adapter to use with the Koolatron 52 quart electronic cooler. The instructions state not to place under load for more than 15 minutes. Since it takes hours to cool, this is unclear. I connected this adapter and my cooler for 12 hours continuous operation with the advertised 40 degree temp drop. The adapter was warm but not hot as to melt objects touching it or burn skin. I am not concerned about the 15 minute notice on the instructions, but clarification is probably warranted.

Half the Cost for Same Product
I purchased a Koolatron cooler and noted that the manual stated that non-Koolatron AC/DC adaptors should not be used and would void the warranty. Rather than take the chance with my old adaptor from a different brand electric cooler, I decided to order a new one. Koolatron offers its adaptor at its web site and I just about ordered it, but then compared Amazon's offering. The identical adaptor at Amazon is half the price of the one through Koolatron. I've used it a number of times and it works fine. It also has about twice the wattage capability of my old adaptor. One caution: the cooler cools or heats depending on how the adaptor or DC plug is connected to the cooler cord. Tell everyone who might use the cooler about this. I failed to tell my wife, and she thought she was cooling a load of food, when, in fact, she was heating it. Big mess.

Do not, I repeat, do not buy a Koolatron cooler
I am truly dissatisfied with both the:(!) Koolatron Multi-Purpose Adapter 110AC to 12 Volts DC ( Model AC-16(2) Koolatron P-85 Krusader 52 Quart Cooler/Warmer for Lawn & PatioFirst I find it interesting that I am offered a chance to rate the Adapter, but not the Cooler. Begs the question as to why doesn't it.The adapter, which cost 35.08, is warranted for three (3) months and it lasted four (4) months. Luckily, I still had an old one made for the Igloo cooler that I've had for years and still functions flawlessly. Then there is the Cooler itself - it cost $179.95. Together I laid out $205.03. When I first used it, I orientated it with the lid up. I did this because the cooled air wouldn't "fall" out of the cooler whenever the lid was open. Unfortunately, even though I didn't have the unit filled to capacity, the circulation is so poor, that the cooling fins would freeze over and essentially there would be nothing but a small block of ice to cool the unit.I called Koolatron and informed them as to what was happening. I asked if the unit had an internal thermostat. My thinking was it may not be adjusted correctly. I was told it didn't have one and to get one with a thermostat, I'd have to pay much more. Well I'll tell you, I have had better ones at half the price. The only reason I bought a Koolatron was, years ago, I owned one and it worked flawlessly and wasn't as expensive as this one.Seeing I wasn't going to get far here, I compromised my operational procedure by setting the unit with the lid faced forward - the cooling unit was now on top where the cool air would just drop to the bottom. Using the cooler in this new position, I knew that every time the lid was opened, much of the cold air inside would stream out and be replaced by warm air. And by doing so, I knew that it would have to run longer and this would also cause a lot of condensation, so I have the unit slightly leaned back so the condensation won't leak out the lid onto the carpet. Now the larger let down is, Koolatron states that the cooler will cool a differential temperature of "about" forty (40) degrees. Now that's a very ambiguous specification. I have used this unit for several months now and it will only cool, at best, by a differential of thirty (30) degrees (is that about forty (40) degrees?) - that's pathetic! At an ambient temperature of eighty (80) degrees, the inside temperature is only Fifty (50) degrees. Would you want to drink a coke or at beer that was Fifty (50) degrees? To compensate for this, I have a couple of frig packs that I alternate from my freezer to the cooler. However, that's not going to help me when I go camping.Save your money and buy an Igloo or a Coleman.A Very disappointed Koolatron customer.

Works as stated but power adapter is junk
The Koolatron cooler is great and the power adapter works. The only thing I don't entirely like about it is that it gets pretty warm/hot when plugged in, but so to a lot of adapters for laptops, so it's not much different than them. The only reason I'm giving it 3 stars instead of 5 is because of how hot it gets, but works just fine with my Kooltron plug-in coolerREVISION 3/25/2013The power adapter gets really hot. And mine actually melted it got so hot. Find a different and better power adapter to be able to still use the cooler outside of your car. Still LOVE the cooler, just need to find a new and better power adapter.
