Does the job well & inexpensively.
I wanted a limestone analog for my Lake Malawi biotope aquarium — the commercial "Cichlid Salts" preparations being hella expensive. A tablespoon of this in 65 gallons of water raises the pH to 8.5 and carbonate hardness of 14, though it takes a few hours to dissolve and initially clouds the water (but does not appear to distress the fish). This bag will last me a good long time.

It definitely raises PH
The bottom line is when this is applied it definitely raises PH for the plants. I needed to do so since I have citrus plants that were in dire need of those levels to be raised.
