Fortivo New Brown Leather and Vinyl Repair Kit

Don't throw out your couch!! This product far exceeded my expectations--which were high. We purchased our used Broyhill leather couch and armchair off eBay 15 years ago. Really. Four kids and three cats used these things to death. I've loved the real leather and the overall upscale look these couches provide. A few years ago we garbage-picked an exactly matching love seat from the side of the road. The arms had rather large holes in them and the leather was pretty gnarly. But it was free, and we needed the extra seating. However, this winter I had to face the fact that our couches were no longer shabby chic. They were just shabby. I started shopping for replacements and quickly realized that we could never afford to replace what we had. And the options we could afford were just cheap. I love a fix-it challenge, so I went online and found this repair kit. I've said that I had high expectations because our couches were in such bad shape: crackled, ripped, dull. But truthfully, I didn't think any product could restore our couches to any degree of beauty. I was wrong!!! Deliriously wrong! I mixed up my first batch of color and laid it one. I was skeptical. But I kept going. Pretty soon, the transformation grew evident: My battered couches were looking weathered, but lovely. I covered cat scratches and areas where the leather had cracked off. I redid much of the loveseat (cushions and arms), two couch cushions and arms, the top of the ottoman, and the arms of the armchair. For the slashed arm of the loveseat, I came across a men's leather jacket at our local Goodwill for $7. I dismantled it, sewed seams down the sides, and used a GOO product to glue my huge patch onto the sofa arm, matching the seams down the side and tucking one end under the side of the cushion and the other under the side of the arm where it slopes around at a 90 degree angle, and you can't see the seam. The color of the coat did not match the loveseat. At all. No problem!! I simply slathered on the leftover coloring and--WOW--it looks pretty great! It's been a few weeks since the initial coloring. Parts of the couch need some touching up. So I reordered the kit. I wanted to get more to keep around for future sprucing up. My husband put boards under the cushions, and I scavenged a memory foam futon cushion to supplement or replace the most deflated couch cushions. The couches and chair don't look perfect, but our style is kind of upscale cottage--or so I convince myself. We like the warm worn and comfy look. Thank you, Browns for this great product!! My one suggestion is that you provide a larger mixing container and spatula. I ended up using the bottom of the tube to spread the colorant on the large areas I was treating. I worked well. But it took me a while to come up with the solution. Buyers, you can purchase this product w confidence!

This is my first time using a leather repair kit and I have to say, I'm pretty happy with this. It comes with many variations of brown and pretty much all the tools you need. The only tool it's missing is an item specifically meant to mix the different colors, and while it would be convenient to have, it isn't too bad that it's missing. So it's pretty easy to use and the concept is simple enough to understand, but there is one issue. You're supposed to mix colors to match exactly what you need and they give you a sheet that shows mixing results, and that's great, but it's really hard to tell if you have the right color. When I applied the filling it honestly looked like the color was off. Only about a half day later was I able to tell that the color was perfect and that's a bit too long to wait in order to find out if you have the right color or not because at that point, you're stuck with what you used. Another issue is that you're supposed to dab the area with a paper towel after using the filling to remove the excess filling, but that will end up removing the necessary filling as well. I ended up letting it dry for like 30 minutes before wiping off the excess with a wet paper towel. This method ended up giving me really great results so I guess it works. One more issue is something that really pertains to me mainly. To feel like I have enough filler to work with, I feel like I have to really squeeze out a lot of the filler from the tube into the mixing cup. It's not a big deal, but for me it feels like a waste if I end up getting the color wrong. Other than the issues listed above, this kit is really good. It makes it look like there were almost no tears in the leather. That being said, the leather I was working on only had surface tears and nothing deep. I highly recommend this kit for anyone who has light wear and tear at least.

Perfect color for my couch. The different base brown colors with the white and black helps with getting the right shade. Like that it comes with all that we would need for the repair/paint touch up. While trying out different colors, if the shade wasn’t the exact match, I was able wipe it off with water. The instructions were clear. After the paint completely dries off, within an hour or two, the recently painted surface was a a bit dry and rough to the touch. This is to be expected as it is paint and not the soft leather that had peeled off. I applied some leather conditioner over it to soften it up the next day after it completely dried up. I also didn’t sit on it during that time just to be safe with the color but I think that’s not necessary. Looks good! Would definitely recommend.

This is good for matching the color, but not great at filling in holes or deep scratches. If your goal is covering up fading colors or matching the color, this works ok. The biggest issue I've had is it is too glossy and remains a bit tacky compared to the original vinyl. If there were a way to make it less glossy I'd give it a higher star rating, but it makes it almost impossible to blend.

My faux leather sleep-sofa was looking beat up. The leather had started to come off on the center cushion that got a lot of use and there were other areas on the cushion that were cracking. I looked into buying a new one, but they are so expensive and then I would have to replace the matching chair also. I figured I would invest the $20 and try this stuff. The directions were easy to understand and it was easy to apply. I was lucky and one of the colors in the box was a good match, I did not have to mix colors. I repaired the damaged area and went over the cracking that had started. It came out awesome, my family was impressed too. The "after" picture makes the repaired area look blotchy, but in real life it is not noticeable at all. It has been a couple of weeks since I did the repair and it seems to be holding up great and preventing the cracking areas from getting worse.

This product worked great and they have awesome customer service. I had three areas to repair on a new sofa. I followed the mixing guide and chose a color. After application i felt it was a little light, so I added darker shades and reapplied and found the perfect color. When I was disappointed with how big the area of repair looked their customer service happened to email me to see how it was going. They told me that when I go to the stage requiring rubbing alcohol that buffing would make the area more blended and less noticeable. Boy were they right! The area looks great! I would definitely buy again, however it comes with lots of stuff so I feel confident it will last a while. great product!

Loved the product. I was amazed at the results. Had a problem matching a color of one of the repairs I needed to make and I heard back from a representative within a day. The ONLY reason for a 4 rating and not 5 is because the kit did not include enough of the White/black colors and they do not sell I dividual colors. However, the representative I shared that with generously shipped our another kit free to get me the additional colors I needed to complete the job! The results I achieved using their product was really amazing! I would recommend trying this product BEFORE anyone blindly accepts car/rv dealers telling you the only remedy is "replacement".

I was trying to touch up the leather trim on a purse, and the color is a tan/buckskin. I followed the color guide exactly, then tried absolutely everything, and finally decided you cannot match this color with the dye colors included in the set. Despite the fact that the included color guide shows that it should be perfect. A tan color should have worked when mixed with a white as primary, however the "tan" in the kit is really an ugly orange-rust. The walnut is also a rusty color. I wasted the entire (extremely small) tube of white just trying to get close to the color I wanted. If you're going for black or chocolate brown, you should be OK. If you want a true tan color, move on. Mixing utensils are a cheap joke. I would like to return this junk but I wasted most of it. Along with my money. UPDATE: The seller immediately processed a refund when they learned of the issues, which was impressive. While I stand by my review of the product, the seller went above and beyond to be fair, which I am very thankful for.
