Wet fly fishing presents a multitude of possibilities to the angler as well as to the fish.
What can I say that it hasn't been said before. This is a truly outstanding book. One clear impression that the book made on my way of thinking about fishing wets is that if you combine the number of ways to fish wet flies with the number of types of wets one can tie, you will have a nearly infinite set of possibilities for presenting wet flies to fish. I have been interested in fishing wets since fishing soft hackles. I was curious to find out how to tie more patterns and to find out more about fishing them. Other than a few scattered books, some out of print and most discussing only one type of wet fly, there are not many books with comprehensive coverage and color illustrations. I bought the Hughes book as my first Kindle Fire selection because I wanted to see how the illustrations in the book would look. In the book there are superb illustrations of all the major types of wet flies and how to tie them. These are done in clear, hi-resolution photos. Hughes has made a systematic study of how wet flies can be tied and fished to match different hatches and fit different stream situations. Hughes explains in clear language how to fish the various types of wets based on these many years of experience. Now that I have the book I am ready to tie and fish wets to my heart's content. Somehow fishing wets in the multitude of ways that Hughes describes, seems like it would be more fun for me than dead drifting nymphs under indicators. This also seems to be a really great way for me to take advantage of my nearly exclusive use of the bamboo fly rods. Bamboo isn't really out of fashion and Hughes makes a clear case that wet fly fishing isn't or of fashion either.

Best book on Wet Fly fishing ever written!!! Buy it, try it and smile with success...
With this much updated edition of "Wet Flies" Dave Hughes presents the passionate fly fisher with the best textbook on Wet Fly fishing ever written. Beautifully written, lucid explanations of myriad Wet Fly techniques founded in tradition and augmented by the author's vast experience offer the student of the craft a guide of inestimable value. Hughes' drive to learn and curiosity illuminate the pages. Modern materials are tossed in a crucible with the techniques of masters past and present. The alchemy works. The result is pure gold, the best advice I've ever read on how to fish this beguiling method. Try any of the approaches he outlines, and you will catch more fish, having more fun in the process. He suggests ways to experiment and spells out in detail the fundamental and the advanced approaches. He covers tackle, flies, and presentation techniques . Chapters 15, 16 and 17 alone are worth ten times the price of the book! This is a must read for anyone who has ever cast a loop over water sparkling with hope and roiling with the promise of beauty from the depths.

An Excellent Book
This book covers the subject well in a clear, concise and eminently readable manner, contains excellent and helpful illustrations and is free of the self preferential and self a congratulatory prose that blight so many books. Both the descriptions of the flies and the discussions of fishing technique are helpful.

The book I have been waiting for.
Dave Hughes has hit this one out of the park! I have never been disappointed with any of his work, but this one is his best yet. He has filled in the gaps from the original, included more photographs and included more modern approaches to wet flies. I would recommend this book to intermediate tyers and fly fishers. I wish the publishers would have cut this in as a hard cover, hence the 4 stars. Enjoy.

Very important information that many of us have overlooked. Sometimes looking back we have better answers today. Comfortable book to read.

Essenziale
È un libro da avere nella propria biblioteca, completo, che spazia dalla costruzione alle tecniche di presentazione degli artificiali.Unica pecca è che essendo un libro che ha qualche anno, gli artificiali sono un po' vecchiotti.

What separates this text from his other books is the authors own admission that these flies will catch fish when dries will not
Possibly the Bible for Wet Flies.Well written, clear and concise and peppered with the right amount of anecdotes to put it all in context. The second edition is a significant improvement over the first edition owing in a large part to the colour plates/photographs contained in the text which if I remember correctly, we're lacking in the first edition...er, at least very few were present.Dave Hughes has written extensively about all things trout fishing and his "Wet Flies" will fit well with all of his other offerings. What separates this text from his other books is the authors own admission that these flies will catch fish when dries will not AND that it's his favourite way to fish. Mr. Hughes enjoys fishing wet flies by a number of different methods.....and explains to the reader a number of approaches of how to do it. Wet fly fishing is truly the authors favourite method to fish for trout and he makes no apologies for it even though it may appear to be somewhat of an "antiquated technique" by many of todays fly fisherman. With all the interest in nymphing as of late (Euro, Czech, Polish, Spanish, French...tightline, etc.) there will inevitably be some sort of "crossover" by some individuals who can be described as "nymphomaniacs". A book like this may provide the impetus towards fishing wet flies by these nymphos (and others) who may not be accustomed to fishing wets but are very comfortable with subsurface techniques. For those who do, a revival for this centuries old technique may be just down the road... however; members of The Brotherhood of the Flymph will simply scoff at this statement crying aloud that wet fly fishing has never gone out of fashion and that it is the ONLY way to catch fish.....amen.....thank you Mr. Hughes.
