Nice-looking warm light, though can't dim smoothly to off, and BT app has some issues
Very pleased with this bulb, which I bought for an old-fashioned copper lampshade in a bedroom, where the bulb is just visible through frosted glass. It's brighter than I expected, but still a (very) warm light and perfect atmosphere for a bedroom. Some reviews say it's too orange, but though it IS very warm (claimed 2100K) it looks perfectly natural to me, unlike some very artificial orange candle LEDS I've seen. If you've been to a modern restaurant or bar with bare filament LED bulbs hanging everywhere, you'll know what to expect.UPDATE: it also perfectly matches the warmest 2200K setting on the Hue White Ambiance GU10 spot that I've now installed as my other bedroom light. As to the BT control and dimming, it's good but not perfect, and I'm not sure it's worth the extra money - if there was the same bulb without the control and cheaper, I would have bought that instead. Pairing with the app is quick and easy, apart from the annoying permissions/registration requirements. I gather that the location permission that many people complain about is down to Android, not Philips or the app - theoretically, any Android app that can scan for BT-LE devices and get their MAC addresses could look them up and find your location - so Android is simply warning you that this is a potential security leak. It's up to you whether you trust the app/Philips not to actually do that, as they claim it doesn't. It could be better worded though - you can't use BT-LE, and hence the app, at all without location permission (as explained), but if you disable it the app always says "location permission needed to scan for new devices" even after you've paired, which is confusing and misleading. Hopefully Android will address this problem in the future. However, the requirement to enter a name and email address just to run the app the first time is inexcusable though - I doubt may people will be entirely truthful here ;-)There are two main issues with the BT control of the bulb (I don't have a hub/bridge so I don't know if that's the same)1) Once paired, on reopening the app it first says "no light connected" and can take up to 5 or 6 seconds after opening before it finds the light(s) and can control it, even with BT already enabled. I suppose that's not very long, and may be just a BT-LE/phone limitation, but whatever the cause it's an annoying wait if all you want to do is switch the light on or off!2) Biggest grip - the dimming doesn't go linearly all the way from full on to off - the "nightlight" setting is the dimmest it can go before turning off completely. That rather spoils the otherwise very slow sleep or wake routines, as they imperceptibly dim to 10% (I estimate - the auto-exposure on my photo doesn't show this very well, but it IS quite dim) but then turn off suddenly, or likewise turn on suddenly at nightlight brightness before gradually brightening. In a dark room that's rather jarring. It's disappointing that they couldn't design the bulb/driver to be able to have any brightness all the way from 0 to 100%, especially given the relatively high cost.UPDATE: in my previous comments here, either I was mistaken, or a subsequent App and/or bulb firmware update has fixed it, but you CAN now set the power-on behaviour as with other Hue bulbs, to one of: default full brightness, last-used brightness, power-loss recovery, or custom setting - excellent! I've uprated my review to 5 stars. So, all in all, I'm very happy with this LED, but I suspect I won't use the app control much, and if an identical old-style BC but non-dim version was available at lower cost, I'd definitely have gone for that instead.

Versatile, good looking and easy to install either individually or as a group (but not cheap either)
First thing to say is that this bulb is very much aiming to be the LED version of low illumination tungsten element lightbulbs where you can look at them and admire the glowing element without blinding yourself. As such it does a pretty decent job, but at a price.Whether it's because they're more complicated to construct, require more expensive materials or it's just more marketable as a high value item these bulbs are more expensive than other LED bulbs, but they also look great and are a magnitude more efficient drawing less than a tenth of the power than the equivalent tungsten element bulbs.Their greatest benefit for me though comes from using their Bluetooth (Zigbee, maybe?) functionality and using the Philips Hue App on my phone to group them together as a pair. They can be dimmed either individually or together, from dim to very very bright, or as a pair preset brightnesses ("moods") can be set, these are great for me as I can now light the room in a variety of way to match my activities whether it's working, entertaining, reading, or relaxing.According to the literature they come with they are also compatible with Alexa and Google's home automation and together with another device from Philips the bulbs can work with Apple's home automation software. I don't have any of these right now and find the Philips App is great in the interim and means I didn't need to spend additional money on adapters from Amazon, Google or Philips etc. just to use the bulb to its full potential. The one thing I don't yet know is how long these bulbs or their bluetooth/automation circuitry lasts and how tolerant they are to mains fluctuations. This is my first time with Philips LED bulbs and home automation so 5 stars might drop precipitously if they turn out to be duds when it comes to their most important job - being a reliable source of light. For now they create a great atmosphere, work exactly as they advertise and create opportunities to light the room simply, flexibly, quickly and usefully with an App on my phone and this is proving to be much more useful than I ever expected and it's because they're easy to set up, don't necessarily need a home automation adapter to work and that they've proven to be more useful than I expected that they get 5 stars overall, despite their price tag.

Nice ornate bulb. Not very bright.
Nice warm glow but they arent very bright. I would only recommend for decorative lamps.

Amazingly warm, easy setup, best paired with a Hue Hub.
These are exactly what we have been looking for. The first LED bulb I have found that gives the same natural ‘orange’ glow of tungsten filament bulbs. They aren’t hugely bright but perfect for bedroom lamps or atmospheric lighting. Two in a bedroom is more than enough for an evening. The dimming is so smooth. As stand alone bluetooth lights they work well with the bluetooth app. However that does not link to any Apple service. No widgets, no shortcuts, no api, no homekit. It does link to Alexa & Google Home but only if you have an Echo etc.We decided to add a Philips Hue Hub which opens them up to so many options, including Homekit and Shortcuts. This makes them much more versatile.Overall, beautiful warm light with great dimming control, easy to set up. Will be buying more!
