Great Info!
This book is 'fully loaded' with answers to many questions one might have about book publishing and also answers to questions you might have never thought of.All aspects of the business are discussed; the good, the bad and the ugly.Sure, it includes accounting & math concepts...but, that's what's required when starting your own business. Negating the accounting & technical aspects of the business only hurts the business in the long run; so, it's good that this information is included. This is a fantastic resource and written very well.

well done but pretty outdated
With the vast changes in the publishing industry, specifically with technology and indie publishing, a lot of this book is really outdated. It should be updated and revised, or just pulled. It was deceptive to me, thinking something this old would not still be offered, it's my fault for not looking at the publishing date (on my phone it's harder). The outdated cover should have been my first clue. That font and style.

don't start a publishing company without this book
If you have even the slightest interest in starting up a publishing company this book is indispensable. Hupalo covers everything from finding a printer to paying royalties and how to create and maintain a publishing budget.

This book is ridiculous!
This book should be entitled, "How to be an accountant for a publishing company". This author is heavy on fancy accounting jargon and accounting calculations and light on actual publishing knowledge. If you're an accountant and interested in working for a publishing company then maybe this book will offer you a few tips. However, be warned that the author often tells you you may not even need to know these facts of which he wastes pages writing. As an independent small publisher, I was looking for a book that would help me understand the more practical aspects of running and growing a publishing company. Such information as marketing your publishing company, how to get more contracts, how to attract the right authors, what resources to use to further your company, HOW TO FIND AN ACCOUNTANT TO HANDLE ALL OF THE ISSUES THE AUTHOR SPENT THE WHOLE BOOK WRITING ABOUT.... I mean really, was this a term paper for your accounting class? I wouldn't have a problem with that if the book wasn't entitled How to Start and Run a small Book Publishing Company. But because it is, there should be SOME information relative to STARTING AND RUNNING a small book publishing company. This book offered me two benefits: 1. A few websites to which I can subscribe and 2. A book to check off of my yearly book reading goal. Beyond that, this author seems to be more caught up into sounding smart than having any helpful advice about how to run a publishing company.A tip to the author: the average person thinking about running a publishing company is probably ALREADY doing something in the publishing arena. So the 2 paragraphs you did spend on actual publishing affairs should have been more than advice on creating a PDF. Spending an entire chapter on how V=CF/ (1+D) +CF was about as useful to me as using those pages to clean windows.Very disappointed!
